    Default Mordor Finances

Hi, just wondering if it is possible to play with Mordor, after several attempts to start a new game I've found that whatever I do, I always end up in the red after a few turns and unable to build anything.

Taxes are raised as high as they can be.

I start by building Mines and hunting lodges in every town as roads don't seem to offer much reward, already in the red by the time I can build roads.

All troops that cannot be garrisoned for free are disbanded.

I've completed the game with High elves twice, Where am I going wrong?

Okay, Mordor is a tough nut to crack, but I managed to get to turn 200 and demolish Gondor and Rohan.

Here is what I believe you are doing wrong.

    1) Right click on the mines to see if they will even bring profit.
    2) Do not constantly build buildings, only build what you need (roads, farms)
    3) Keep taxes on low or normal, because the larger population, the more people there are to pay taxes.
    4) Keep conquering (I usually have the entire shore by turn 5).
    5) Are you sure you do not have a stack or something hiding somewhere?
    6) Gather troops from all the cities together, leave 1 unit per city to keep order.

    Thanks for the quick reply

    1) The only mines I can build are in Barad Dur and they give me 330 per turn, not got as far as building the second as i have no money to do so.
    2) Only got as far as building the above mines and a hunting lodge in every town, might try leaving at that and not building any higher hunting lodges, but once I've built roads I'm pretty much in the red.
3&4) Will give these a try.
    5) Just checked, no hidden stacks.
    6) Won't this just massively drain my resources? Even if I slaughter or sack every settlement I conqour, I'll only get a few coins in return.

Also I can't seem to find a way to recruit a diplomat, trade rights, map info and military access would seem essential for the dark lords main faction in the empire.

Are you using any submods? Like Baron Samedi's gameplay enhancing?

Umm, might be, how did you guess? I've got all the Baron's enhancements enabled except for the first one about total recruiting, but I can't see how the others should affect finances.

That means you are using the Immortal Nazgul script by baron samedi which is atm bugged.

Change the upkeep for nazgul and sauron, you can see in my post what changes I made and decide for yourself.

Every campaign i start im always in the red by turn 5. But thats alright, im pretty sure that this may have been intended. You just have to work with what you've got, and keep taking settlements. After a while you'll get back into the green. Thats what i do anyway

Must either be a glitch or you're the worst player ever haha. I think this Mordor problem happens to everybody, on previous versions of third age I never noticed anything like this

Well I never ended up in debt with the high elves or the free peoples, would have had 3 settlements but Harad go there a turn before me.

If you have submods installed you should ask this in their own thread.

Anyway, now that you have BSGE and 9 nazgul at the start of game your army upkeep is huge because of their bodyguard. Also their bodyguard numbers will rise first few turns so upkeep will be even more bigger. Your only option is call invasion and put every nazgul into invasion army so that they have free upkeep. Sack many as possible of Gondors settlements to gain enough money and build your economy in Mordor. After while you are able to upkeep nazgul normally and get bigger army. Also don't adopt any generals before this.

What settlements did you conquer? At turn 13 I had already conquered W+E Osgilliath, Henneth Annun, Cair Andros and the settlement southwest of Minas Morgul. I did not biuld anything, but instead assembled all troops i had, called a crusade on eastern osgilliath (got me another 6 units of ork raiders) and only concentrated on taken settlements as fast as possbile. I did get into red at first, but after a few more turns my armies were depleted enough so id didn't have financial trouble anymore. after that i only concentrated on keeping garrisons in osgilliath and cair andros, barad dur and minas morgul had one unit each, and with the exception of the with king all generals were fighting in the west.

Emyn Arnen and Ost-in Gil, probably wasted too much time going for Tir Ethraid, helped Harad win the city. I guess next time I'll go for East Osgiliath as would make a great defensive point against Gondor, will try the Invaision tactic as soon as I can. Thanks.

Fantastic, never would have though Wraiths would have much to spend gold on anyway.

Edit: I did try calling an invasion on West Osgiliath with the intention of holding under siege for ten turns but I was attacked the next turn, to which the only sensible response was utter annihilation, Successful invasion which lead to more debt.

Yep, it is mostly a sub-mod problem. The submod is made to more or less put you in debt.

Which unit is it for Sauron in the unit file? I found the nazgul one but cannot find Sauron unless it's sauron elephants.
