    Default New computer chair

I've bought quite a few chairs in the last few years, and it's getting tiresome to have to buy a new one every couple of years because they keep losing their padding! So, I'm going to bite the bullet and buy a more expensive one, such as this:

    http://www.margolisfurniture.co.uk/e...c_office_chair

It looks really good, pretty much everything is adjustable and can be used for more than eight hours a day. It also comes with a ten year guarantee - although I'm going to find a showroom to try it out and find out exactly what that covers. The thing is, are chairs like this really worth over £300 (adding on VAT, it's probably £400+) ? After all, you can get a decent laptop for that money, can't you? Having said that, if I was to buy a chair like that and it was to last ten years or more, then I'd be prepared to spend that sort of money. I'm sick and tired of forking out every couple of years for new chairs - and my latest one is beginning to hurt my back: even the back rest has lost padding!

Has anyone here had experience with chairs like that? Or if anyone knows of a cheaper model that will last for five years or so before beginning to lose its padding, that'd be great.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Remember, it is guaranteed for ten years - I agree it's a hell of a lot of money to shell out all at once, but if it lasts for ten years or more, then it works out at better value than buying a new damn chair every five minutes. I've got a cushion on my chair right now - they lose their padding even faster than the chair itself - I've gone through a lot of cushions.

Edit: I probably sound like I'm fat or something - I'm not. I only weigh 9 and a half stone.

OK, forget the uber expensive chairs for now - maybe they are just a very expensive gimmick, I don't know.
All I'm looking for is a good, well padded chair that supports your back, has tilting backrest/seat and won't lose its padding within a couple of years. If that means spending £100 or £200, so be it, but my experience has told me that anything less than £100 won't last too long as far as padding goes. My last chair was £60 at Staples! For that money, surely you can expect the padding to last longer than a couple of years?

My father bought a studio chair 20 years ago, yes, it is a little scratched but other than that it is in perfect condition; he payed 60£ (Italian Lire).

Why would you want to spend so much and what do you do with chairs?!

Nothing, apart from sit on them. (Why, what were you thinking of ) Now, what your father bought, that's what I'm looking for. I don't want to spend too much, but as I said, I've spent up to £60 before on a chair and it still lost its padding within a couple of years. All I do is sit on it - and I only weigh 9 and a half stone. That's why I won't be going to Argos, or Staples, or PC World - I've found some specialist office chair stores in Central London and judging by the websites, they have a wide range, from ones that cost around £60 - £80, to those ridiculously expensive ones I mentioned at the top of the thread. I'm hoping if I go to a place like that, I'll be able to get one that'll last a long time for a reasonable amount of money - my thinking is that if a chair is on sale in a store like that, then it'll be better quality even for less than £100, relatively speaking, to Argos/Staples etc. If I could pick one up with a five year guarantee, that would probably do the job - if a chair is still cushioned after five years, it's not likely to lose its padding at all, I wouldn't have thought.

Twenty years ago, that's a long time - any idea how much that would be in today's money?

60£ Lire should be 30 Euros but I'm pretty sure they'd make this kind of operation: 60£ Lire = 60 Euros.

This is what my chair looks like, it is in leather.

That lasted 20 years and is still comfortable to sit on - it hasn't lost its padding in other words? Thanks for your reply, you have been very helpful. Rep on its way to you.

I am using that chair right now, it's very comfortable and nothing fell apart, everything is where it should be, it just got a bit greyer and scratched because of my cats.

Thanks for the +rep, I've +repped you back too!
