    Default Help!! Retreating??

I am currently playin a SS 6.1 game as the Knights Templar and have come under attack by the Fatimids at Damascus. I had 5 untis of Knights Templar in the city and they sieged with a full stack. They assaulted before i could bring up a support army so I decided instead of auto-calcing and losing my units I would fight the battle on the map and flee out the back gate of the city. All went according to plan until my units made it to the red line at the end of the battle map and will NOT cross it. I have seen AI units run out of the the battle this way. Is there any way to retreat so that I can salvage my units or are they doomed? sorry if this is answered somewhere, couldnt find it. (I currently have the battle paused waiting for some help

Unfortunately I think your units are screwed mate. The problem in defending a city during a siege is that your units retreat point is the centre of the city. Its only in open battles that your troops can retreat over that red line. Keep fighting though, I remember a few times when I faced impossible odds and managed to scrape a win by the skin of my teeth. Good luck!

Nope, you're out of luck. I've tried that ages ago. Doesn't work. If you're defending during a siege, that's it. It's either you win, or you lose everything. You're pretty much screwed in this situation if they have a full stack, but inflict as much damage as possible as you can because you're stuffed anyway. Well at least, until your armies arrive to take it back. Move your knights out through a side gate. And pull a Rohirrim style charge into their flank/rear and try to take out as many as possible.

Should have asked that actually. SonofPeveral are your knights mounted or dismounted?

Ah yes, my oversight - sorry. Well if they're dismounted, just put them in the centre square in a horseshore shape so that the enemy poors in and is surrounded. I trust that it's a typical Fatimid army full of low-quality spear troops that should take huge casualties against your foot knights so yeah, if they're not mounted, do that.

They were mounted. I only had 55 seconds to retake the city square when i read the response. Had to break the news to my troops that they were doomed. Good to know for next time. Thanks for the help.

Also I am new to posting on this forum and want to ask how to give rep? i see the green plus sign on my own name but where is it for others?

5 full strength mounted Templars? I wouldn't given up on that battle so easily. Keep 1 in the city to hold the square and 2 to track down the enemy general and 2 to take out easy targets. If you can kill the general without losing more than 50% of the units you sent after him you have a good chance to win against most Fatimid armies.

2 units were full the other three were weakend by the assault on damascus. I had an army just out of reach to reinforce and thought i could save all of them and easily retake the city. i should have just done what you suggested.

Actually there is a way to save those units: when enemy sieges your settlement and you have good general or units in there and no way to win you can give the settlement to attacker whit diplomat. You will lose the city but any of your troops will not get harmed

I think the game tries to represent that the city is surrounded - even if the whole enemy army seems to be standing at the north gate, there's still a huge siege camp all around the city, letting noone escape.

And by the way, unless you have good pikemen, don't defend at the square. The walls are a much better place to stop the enemy.
The game development business is one of bottomless greed, pitiless cruelty, venal treachery, rampant competition, low politics and boundless personal ambition. New game series are rising, and others are starting their long slide into obscurity and defeat.
