Default Urgent help about Fate of Empires gameplay.

After not playing Rome for some years, i came back 2 days ago and installed this mod.

Just one thing, ive been serching for a guide for fate of empires but cant find any!.

My problems are that im going into debt very fast, even with 30 000 starting gold. Im still standing with the starting armies, no new recruitment or buildings, save for a few.

And i cant understand the way to build the cities, with so many extra things in it.

Any pointers to a faq or guide? thx.

Here's the link to the manual, it should help you with understanding the economics of FOE - http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=308437

And, as an important quick tip for playing as the Romans: take your northern army to the west and conquer GENUA as quickly as possible. It should be easy to capture unless the Gauls get there first, and it'll help a lot with money.

Ok thx for the reply, good to see that this mod isent dead!.

Ive read through the guide and im ready to start out a new campaing.

I played as the epirous last campaing, and i dont know if this is normal..but i lost around 5 000 gold each turn in sicily, with syracuse losing almost 4 000 gold each turn. Is that normal?.

Most of my minor cities are also in the negative.

So i whent up to minus 100 000 very fast, wo even recruiting new units or queing buildings.

And it wasent possible to dispand armies, with being in war in sicily and mainland italia.

Well, im gonna try a new carthage campaing, lets hope it turns around better.

In any version of Rome: Total War, the money that it says each individual city is making/losing is a bit misleading. You lose money from having units for upkeep. The cities show only how much they're contributing to that. Therefore, it is never bad for your economy to own cities.

As Epeiros, you have one major advantage: an elite army. You have to use that army to capture cities quickly to improve your economy. If you don't, you'll lose money. Disbanding troops is the quickest way to save money, but again, that negates your biggest advantage.

You should probably try Epirus once you understand how the mechanics work. They are quite tough to get to grips with because they have some really expensive units but they don't have the income to deal with it. Rome, Carthage and the Illyrians all like to take a bite at you and that means you can't trade with them.

That's not really playing it the way it was intended though Sam. I mean sure you can do that but it takes out the most challenging part of RTR VII FoE and TIC.

Yeah, part of the reason I like the gameplay of FOE and EB so much is that they make money harder to come by, though sometimes I still find myself queuing buildings to keep from running into extremely bad trait zone.

Yes, that is a common problem with RTW, and a lot of mods, Delta. You reach a certain level of expansion and then the money rolls in faster than you can spend it! This is something we are working hard to remedy in RTRVII, our current project. In it, when your empire has reached a certain size, your profits will be curtailed somewhat, making it harder to expand the more settlements that you take. That's going to keep you on your toes.

Couldn't you increase corruption after a while. The bigger the company the more managers are going to take a little bonus for themselves ¬_¬

I think corruption is hardcoded, unless its available through traits which means that the player can move the corruption around with the Family Member

Nope, but as I said above, we've pretty much got the finances under control in VII, so you will not end up with lots of money because your empire is large.

I can confirm that. If you manage everything well, each turn brings in about the same amount of money irrelevant of the size of your empire (there is a subtle difference, of course). Each turn you have to think "In what am I going to invest next; military here or economy there. Shall I build these roads in this minor region, or will I enhance my grip on that major one?"

It really is a great system :
