Dale vs Rhun ...

Hi.

I've been trying to beat the Rhun, playing as Dale, on medium/medium difficulty, but the keep overpowering me with numerous and strong armies.

I have tried staying defensive, good economy, strong walls etc, no joy.

I've tried going straight for them and have managed to take three or four of the settlements before they outnumber me again, no joy.

I've tried doing it with cheap, early units on mass, no joy.

I've tried concentrating on tech and hitting them with more advanced units, no joy !

Any tips greatly appreciated.

Try to get that castle(Uldonavan?) near the sea of Rhun so they won't have acces to their top units. and spam archers.

This is also my first priority. This way you can built better units fast, as the caste itself is relative well developed. Further I try to conquer the rebel settlement in the East as soon as possible. This way you basically have ony two settlements that need to be defended.

Something else you might do is get the dwarfs involved

. You could do it by giving them this rebel settlement in the East. If Rhun does not attack them, great, you only hae to worry about the South. If they do attack the dwarfs, well, fine aslo as you now have an allied force helping to fight them.

As Rhun can be heavy on archers and horses. I also tend to fight defensive seige battles. This way their cavalry has les use and space and my archers have an advantage over theirs.

Hope this helps a bit. Keep trying, maybe play with Rhun also, then you get more familiar with their units. This way you are better able to distinguise thier strong and weak points. Could help when playing as Dale again.

Archers. Trade agreements. Sell map rights to other nations. Make money by using diplomacy.

Knock their cav down with pike/spearmen. Take Uldonavan. Take rebel provinces. Then you will outnumber Rhun.

Also, Barding Hird will help much against heavy armoured Rhùn's units.

Good info. I've played Gondor and Dwarves, looking to play Dale next and I wondered about how to handle Rhùn. Funny thing though, in my previous campaign the Dale AI always got their behind handed to them by Rhùn but in my latest campaign, playing Dwarves, Dale really went on the offensive and is literally wiping the floor with Rhùn.

Archers, archers, archers. Woodsmen are good. Longbows amazing. Anything above that lethal. Since Dale has weak infantry, particularly in the early game, you really want to focus on your ranged capabilities, especially since Rhun tends to spam javelins and horse archers. Don't let them close. When playing as Dale, my ranged units usually make up half of my army.
