Well im thrilled that you think R2TW would need a RTR mod, but unfortunately new CA games cant be modded very well, let alone completely.

It will take some years and a great deal of work before we can even think about completely converting Napoleon, let alone Rome 2

I don't think Steam has much to do with why ETW and NTW are hard to mod.

The problem is that ETW and NTW used Luac for their code which is confusing in-itself and they were also very hard to implement new models into. The issue now is that starting with S2TW everything will be in Binary code, which is next to impossible to work with. So unless that changes or we get mod tools there can be no R2TR.

Well that doesnt help modding much.

I almost wish they would release the entire source code for Medieval 2 or something. Anyways, I think that with M2 we will be able to reach new heights, and that the platform will serve us well for years.

Creating a game is actually more difficult than one might think. I think the 0AD team been at it for years.

To put it in perspective it took about 30 coders 3 years to make the RTW engine. That's roughly 216 hours each for all 30 of them (collectively 194,400 hours!), in a perfect system with no mistakes or brainstorming etc. These are all professionals to, who all know what they are doing as opposed to a group of people getting started on the internet. It's just not feasible.

Well have we more coders? And maybe we can ask from the CA to give a source code or something. Then we can do more stuff:Like adding a faction slot,or a just a slot.

You could pray S2 flops, if they go bankrupt and disappear than there games become public domain if no one buys the copyrights

However this won't happen and I would never want it to, I like CA's games and I have only ever gotten one bad game from them.

I guess I am not a TW fan. I'm in it for the era RTW portrays, not the gameplay. If there's a R2TW I'll probably buy it and play it. It would be immensely frustrating if it weren't moddable, especially because I don't expect CA to thoroughly innovate the concept of Total War (a lousy campaign as an excuse for a series of visually stunning but ultimately repetitive battles). Everything I hear seems to be pointing towards less or no moddability though.

Edit: Oh my, I do sound awfully grumpy there

Not at all But in all seriousness there will be no modding of it unless they give us those modding tools they promised. Which is highly doubted, we all should just sit back and find an indie dev that makes similar games to mod
