Default Why do people want Rome 2 so much?

I'm wondering why people want Rome 2 Total war so much.. Is it because they prefer the era or is it that they belive that making a Rome 2 is gonna be automaticly as good as Rome 1? I'm pretty sure if they were making Rome 2 total war they would be using the same mechanics they are using for Shogun 2 total war...
In my honest opinion i think Medieval japan was quiet a nice pick for a next total war game!

We want Rome 2 cause the Era is very interesting and we have theire much different Factions with very diffrent types of units and all of them look diffrent. This was the problem of the later titles. To much units look like the same, just in diffrent colours.

Proud to be a real Prussian.

Mostly it was just a re skinned units with slightly different stats.

That said, I woudn't mind seeing a Rome 2. But Shogun to draws me in more, but then again, that migh be because I'm pumped for this game at the moment.

For me Rome covers the great states of the ancient world, not just Rome itself but Egypt, Greece, Carthage, etc plus the diversity of all the factions was amazing especially the celts and the germans, its a great period for a totalwar game.

Plus the totalwar series has always been about conquest. Unrealistic in the Medieval world, or the 18th century, bit more realistic within Romes timeframe.

People want Rome because of the great era and the huge legendary success of the first Rome. I love the era, but I doubt CA is able to cover it in the big style it did in the past. That's probably why they made a Shogun 2, in opposition with the popular demand

I still play Rome quite abit with EB, its amazing. I seriously doubt any game will ever be better, its all about graphics today not gameplay or atmosphere.

As folk have already said, it is not just the Romans, it is also their diverse opponents that make it such an attractive setting.

That and the introduction of sea warfare.

Hopefully by then they will have cracked the issues with combining land & sea actions too.

I am really looking forward to seeing how they will present Rome 2.

its a combination of things, first it it very intresting and like said above it is realistic for one empire to conquer alot of land. The time period is just full of diversiry, pretty much every faction will have a unique unit roster because thats how it was historically. Also, the map will be very big if they do it right this time, with a full selucid empire and a faction for spain that isnt crap. i really hope they make a new engine that dosent suck though, by 2013 or whenever its released it will be out dated anyway, so i think that means they have to remake the mechanics stuff.

CA, give me my legions back!

it's my favourite period in history, plus variety in factions/units and in Rome2 naval batlles with corvus and shiny new graphics and animations, but happy with shogun2 as well

    Why we want ROME 2 ? ....
because this period was the most exciting, most famous, most notorious historical era ! republic, empire, civil wars, slave rebellions, great conquests, diverse cultures, great enemies, barbarians, Punic, Greek, Egypt ...Phalanx, cohors, horse archers, berserkers, war elephants, famous battles, formations, tactic against wild hordes! And + 3D true naval warfare!
ROME II = gold mine for CA for sure!

This doesn't belong in the Shogun 2 forum.

Cause rome is the most epic period with the most epic armies of all time, and with a great historical content , i dont see any other period that would interest me more than the Roman or Hellinic era.

Rome 1 was arguably the BEST game the CA has ever produced.
And the Roman era seems to be the era that the CA has the most competence with. Let's face it: muskets aren't the CA's forte. RTW had flaws, a lot of flaws, but let's face it again: every game has a lot of flaws. The CA can easily create the Legions and hordes of Ancient times.
Romans are also the most interesting: who wouldn't want to play as the conquering Legions of Rome? One of the best militaries of the ancient world? Or the Carthaginians, the people who could've destroyed the Romans? Or the countless other cultures and peoples of the Ancient world?

What we want is a return to the old gameplay with new graphics. What we want is a Rome Total War without the flaws.

What we want is Rome 2 Total War.
    Meh.

We want Rome 2 because Rome + RSII is amazing - imagine a game that looks better than that, with fantastic animation instead of the same hacking/stabbing animation that Rome TW has. Imagine Roman era naval battles where you can actually control the ships and shout 'RAMMING....SPEED!' if you feel the need. Above all, the Roman era is simply the best era that TW has ever produced - the sheer variety of units between different factions is amazing, and leads to many different styles of combat.

And I don't know about anything else, but I'll never get tired of watching a Roman Legion shower the enemy with javelins (pila?) It's so deliciously brutal! I don't suppose Japanese medieval era armies used javelins?

On a bit of a side note, has anyone noticed how no TW game has been able to match the 'CHAAAAAAAAAARRRRGGEEEE!' shout from the Roman general?

Besides, it's been nearly 7 (that's right, SEVEN) years since the original Rome - I'm sure there wasn't that much of a gap between Medieval and Medieval II for example. It's got to be Rome's return next - where else can the TW series go?

Because the Rome period deserves a game on the new total war engine or even a brand new engine. The period is very interesting with many varied units making for a different experience depending on the faction you pick
