    Default Emberverse: Total War

Has anybody here read Dies the Fire by S.M. Stirling, or any of the sequels? If you have not, I shall sum it up: The story takes place mainly in Oregon's Willamette Valley. A strange even called the Change has occurred, leaving all electricity, internal combustion engines, and gunpowder (among other modern necessities) useless. After most of teh population is devastated by famine, plague, and banditry, a few factions rise up to gain control of the most fertile farmlands in the region.

After reading a bit of the stories, I thought to myself, "Wouldn't this make a great Total War setting?"

The proposed area would be roughly from Eugene or Roseburg up the the Seattle area north-south, and from the West Coast possibly as far as Idaho east/west. This would include the fertile farmlands found in Oregon and Washington, the rainy coasts and the Cascades and Coast Range Mountains in the West all to consider, as well as the grassy plans, ranchland, arid deserts and dry mountains in the east of those states. Major rivers include the Willamette, Columbia, and Snake rivers, among dozens of others, and major cities (pre- and post-Change) include Dun Juniper, Larsdalen, Pendleton, Portland, Mt. Angel, Corvallis, and more.

In this area, there is room for many factions as well. The Bearkillers would be a major player, with strong cavalry including lancers and mounted archers as well as unmatched infantry. Led by an ex-marine and with several talented advisors, they are a force to reckon with.

Clan Mackenzie started as a small farming community, but fortune and fate brought them to the forefront of Willamette politics. Largely Wiccan in religion, and with talented longbowmen at their disposal, they have proven to be more than simple farmers.

The Portland Protection Association is an outright tyranny. Unfortunately, they are also the most powerful faction in the region. Led by the Lord Protector who wields absolute authority over the lands along much of the Columbia and much of the northern Valley as well as southern Washington. The PPA's troups are well-armed and equally well-trained.

Many other factions occupy the area. Corvallis is a major power in the central Willatte as well. There is also Mt. Angel Monastery's warrior monks, the CORA confederacy, and father to the east, New Deseret, Church Universal and Triumphant, and the Boise-based wannabe-successor to the U.S.A.

Does anybody else like this idea? It is definitely something that I would really like to see.

This would be great! Also, this mod may not be as difficult as some of the other more ambitious ones that have been seen.

Units for the PPA could easily be taken from the England faction in Medieval II.
Units for the MacKenzies could be taken from the Scotland faction in Medieval II.
Units for the United States of Boise could be taken from the Julii, Brutii, or Scipii factions in Rome.
Mt. Angel could be taken from the Crusader units/Knights Hospitallier in Medieval II.
Corvallis could be lifted from the Papal States faction in Medieval II for their use of Pikemen, or perhaps make Corvallan Pikemen a mercenary unit?
The Moorish Corsairs which feature in "The Sword of the Lady" could be taken from the Moors faction in Medieval II.
The CUT could maybe be taken from the Mongol/Timurid faction in Medieval II? The commander for their armies would need a retexture to resemble the red-robed Seekers though.
    Not sure about the CORA.
The native rebels from North America in Medieval II provide a base for the Native American factions in the books.
Not sure about the Rangers, mercenary units maybe?
The Free Cities of Yakima fight the ancient Greeks from the description in "the High King of Montival" so maybe lift them from the Greek Cities faction in Rome?
Various "Eater" tribes could serve as a Rebel faction, maybe from the Britain faction of Rome, they are quite grisly with the head hurlers and all.

This sounds awesome, I live south (within 60 miles) of the Oregon border with California, i would like it if maybe you added your own spinoff and included Northern California, it's very moutainous and hilly up here (it would make a nice Norway-esque faction)

As an Oregon resident myself, this. Is. Awesome. Just the irony of a Portland-based dictatorship is epic!

The books are incredibly engaging. It's a very interesting hypothesis, what would happen if we were suddenly left without guns, electricity, or any other type of high technology.

Also, I forgot The Bearkiller faction, they could maybe be taken from the Denmark faction in Medieval, Mike Havel (primary character in the first trilogy) is of Nordic/Scandinavian descent. Would need a retexture for the unit commander to reflect the Bear Lord.
