EB won't run :(

Hello all! Sorry to start out with a problem, but I suppose this is the place for it.

I have tried to install EB twice now and it doesn't seem to like me. I am using windows 7 32 bit and have Rome Total War Gold from steam. I downloaded EB 1.1, installed it with the three Extras, then installed the 1.2 patch. I have tried moving the RTW folder from program files/steam/steamapps/common into just C:/Rome total war gold and installing, as well as installing it directly into the program files folder though it says that is not recommended, I have tried launching it through steam with "-mod:eb -show_err" and not through steam. All I get is Failed to find Steam for an error.

Also now that I reinstalled everything this time, Trivial Script has stopped working as well(it worked the first time). It says "Row: 0 Description: Failed to open file" with details "XMLScriptParser: Couldn't load file: script.xml" "Error Parsing file: script.xml" and "Row 0 Description: Failed to open file".

I've tried to follow the video here http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=208150 but my shortcut does not accept that as something you can put as a target.

I have also tried what kdub22 says here http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=272823 but when I try to launch that in steam it says windows can't find it.

I have heard that sometimes it works if you keep trying or if you try it with Alexander which I also have in steam, so I will keep working at it, but hopefully you kind folks have some advice!

Welcome to the forum!

I don't use Steam so I'm not able to reproduce your steps, the only things I can say:
- disable UAC during the installation progress
- don't move games out of the Steam folder without changing it in the options
- try to run Steam with admin-rights

Incredibly, it has worked! Fourth time was the charm! I disabled UAC, restarted my computer, ran steam with admin rights, installed to the program files steam folder, and I can run EB!!!! Incredible! Thank you for the assistance, XSamatan! And to everyone here for working on such an incredible game/mod!

Hello, I've installed EB 1.1 in my folder ... Rome - Total War. (After correctly installing RTW and patching)

In my startup menu I have an icon "Play single player" when I click on that my RTW fires up and I get the first screen then it CTDs on me. When I look at the target in the icon it has ""C:\Copy of Activision\Rome - Total War\EBTrivialScript\EBTrivialScript.exe" -s ebconfig.xml -runeb -type "Single Player".

I've plaid just about every RTW mod there is and haven't ever seen an entry like that. Also my 3 installs have NOT installed a desktop icon. It all seems odd to me. Can anyone help? Thanks

Start EB using "EB-Singleplayer" found in your root RTW folder, this should normally do the trick.

If not, check the Frequently encountered issues about the shortcut problem.

Post back here if that didn't help you!

XSamatan: I looked a the FAQ and the one item concerning the startup suggested that I change my target to:
"C:\My games\RomeEB\RomeTW.exe" -mod:eb -show_err -ne... That entry doesn't look close to what I have:
"C:\Copy of Activision\Rome - Total War\EBTrivialScript\EBTrivialScript.exe" -s ebconfig.xml -runeb -type "Single Player-nm" -Obviously I know I have to change the My games\RomeEB to: Copy of Activision\Rome EB.... but is part of the target referencing the EB trivial script correct? Here is what my Rome -Total War folder looks like:

Yes, that hint only affects sole shortcuts, not an error within the Trivial Script, sorry for misreading your post.

Did you disable videos in "EB-Configuration"? Try this first.

If all fails, create a new shortcut to Rome-TW.exe and edit the target line by adding: -mod:eb -show_err -ne -nm
