Keep your taxes low, build roads, farms and grain exchanges first. Have as many alliances as possible and help your most important allies. Never fight on more than two fronts at once. Don't expand too quickly because you won't be able to defend your borders. Build alot of watch towers. Try to starve your enemies out instead of assaulting the walls(unless you are playing as the dwarves). Balance your armies - 40% infantry, 40% archers and 20 cavalry for most factions(more archers if you are playing as the elves, more infantry if you are playing as the dwarves and more cavalry if you are playing as Rohan). And NEVER auto-reslove.
thanks alot im about to give that a try now
it seems to works so far with rohan bt after 9 turns i was in da red -1300 so i just disband all of my units till i need a force except near isengard bt other then dat turn 23 and holding strong
When playing Rohan from the start, move your existing units to fill up all the free upkeep spaces. Don't build any new units unless absolutely necessary. Take all your generals out of their settlements and split them into 2 armies. Leave the King in Edoras. This way, you can save some up some much needed money to build troops later on in the game. Also remember you don't have to build in every settlement, every turn. Concentrate on building in only key settlements.
Your largest settlements like Edoras, Helm's Deep, plus the settlements closest to Isengard.
As previously said using all/most of your generals is the best way to go. But I like to split them up into two armies... one to protect against Isengard and one to protect Edoras when the invasions come.
Good luck with your campaign.![]()
Hmmm, these are also the settlements that get Invasions called against them. A little of topic perhaps but I have abandoned Edoras before, knowing that I would lose it to an invasion anyway and I would rather save the money as Invasions last, what? 10 turns or more? and can be very draining financially to defend against. Anyone have a good tactic for Invasions?
Early on build for war only where needed, economy elsewhere, in safe towns ownly have free upkeep troops, disband or move those who are not supported by the buildings you have in place. Check your Generals growth potential traits if they are poor he's your fighter, if they are good make him a Governor.
should i build for war in the captial or just border cities?? and whats consider good growth potential??
I usually raise up all the taxes to max for the first 10 or so turns, while only building economy (roads and farms in the highest income cities first) and using the units I have. Except recruiting units to fill up free upkeep slots. After this you should have a nice chunk of change saved up and a strong economy so you can drop your taxes to encourage growth without affecting your production. I would imagine most peeps use this tactic, but I don't know. With the money you save you should be prepared for most any situation until you are nice and set up, just don't spend it all. Try using one army for conquering new regions, and use the saved money to recruit troops for defense when needed. And finally, disband units or use them up in battle when they are not needed, cheapest unit upkeep is like 180 so it adds up if they are not in a free upkeep slot. One drawback to this tactic is it makes the game a bit too easy, so I use it sparingly. Sometimes it is more fun to struggle and lose.

true it is fun to lose but not wen im bankrupt and cant fight back id rather have the funds to make a army and lose then to not have money and be getting massacred by full stacked armies by turn 25
what the hell is vh/vh?
Please excuse the ignorance, but people talk with these acronyms assuming that everyone else just knows what they mean...
How about very hard/very hard
And there is no need for bad language![]()
If you really can't make any money try playing h/vh or m/vh instead.
Well the answers were aimed at the OP (original poster), as such, as he had already used the abbreviation vh/vh, its fair to assume he understood them. If you do not then its fine to ask but bear in mind when doing so, we were answering his question and addressing those answers to him.
vh/vh is the game difficulty, very hard/very hard
Hello all, first time poster here.
Recently discovered this gem of a mod and am currently in my first campaign. I'm also playing as Rohan. I did run into money troubles early in the game, too. I saved money by not going too crazy with calvary units as they are expensive. Instead I put all of my generals to work. My early armies consisted nearly entirely of my generals (yes the king too) and maybe a few militia spearmen to engage enemies while the generals flank, charge, and rout the enemies. You can even skimp out on the spearmen if you want. Just arrange your cav into multiple groups and run around to disorient the enemy until a flank or backside opens up. I did not spare any generals for governor duty since they are more valuable fighting.
Of course this means you will have to starve out the opponent in siege battles. But I've found that usually the enemy will sally out because of the low numbers in my army. Then they get decimated by the bodyguards. General bodyguards also replenish themselves, so you can save on retraining costs too.
thank you for explain that to him b4 he spammed the thread with points question on a simple ideal.
thats a really intresting ideal im goin to start a new game after school an use that topic....so with your generals do you every use any archer when fighting isengard???? and when fighting with all generals in one army do they all gain traits and retuine?? im pretty sure only the main commander gets command points

Yeah ok, thank you for half explaining that. I thought it might mean very hard/very hard, but what does that mean?
And what are you talking about bad language?? You're offended by people who say "what the hell"? Wow dude, maybe you need to steel yourself a bit more from the outside world...
Well very hard means erittäin hankala in my language and very hard/very hard would mean erittäin hankala/erittäin hankalaCan't really say what is it in your language because I don't know where you are from. Maybe you should try Google Translate

But to explain something: example rock is very hard, but not the way game can be. Life can be very hard and that would be more like the game but not quite. Also you can say sarcasm is hard but it's also something else than the way game is hard
Seriously, maybe it could have some connections to campaign and battle difficulty.
When I'm at my computer I'm very hardly outside so lets just be nice![]()
