Default A silly doubt: Balance Issues?

Well first I want to priase the modders for coming with this awesome modification of a game I really loved, thanks for making me love it even more .

To further explain my point I tried to make some screenshots, but when I tried, instead of showing the game screen, it showed a completly black screen (if someone knows how to solve this, i will upload the images with pleasure)

Now, I have noticed there might some balance problems with two particular factions: The Seleucid Empire and Macedonia. And Im not talking about that their units are OP or something, the real problems come in the campaign map.

For some reason these two factions are able to hold a military machine that can easily wipe out all bordering factions. The first thing I noticed this was playing as Rome and after checking the global situation I realised that seleucids and macedonias already could just went blitzkrieg on anyone and win with ease. That was in the year 247.

But the problem became obvious(and dangerous) when I started a campaign as Bactria. Happened exactly the same as in my campign with the romans: by the year 248 BC the seleucids were crushing the ptolemaics, the armenians and pontus and there was no hope to stop them. I first thought was my fault for exapanding my empire so slowly, but the fact that Macedonia had already expanded so far as Denmark caught em with my pant down...

At this point I began to doubt that it was all because I was a noob. So I tried two more times

In my second try as Bactria, i tried to deal with the seleucids right from the beginning trying to capture the Empires eastern provinces qickly to finance my campogn. Again the Empire stikes back with an overwelming force of never ending Gold Shilds and all sorts of mercenaries and auxiliares. My initial campign against me allowed to survive til 213 BC, with the result was exactly the same: an nearly indefeatble Seleucid Empire(who had already wiped out the ptolemaics, Armenia, Parthia and Pontus) and Macedonia who was already invading Spain (after wiping out the gauls and germans)

In my third(and most sucessful) try, after dropping tears of blood I was able to fight off the Seleucids and transform Bactria into the largest Succesor Kingdowm, I was also able to bring the fight to the Seleucids capturing some of their mesopotamic provinces only to find out that at the same time the mighty sons of Seleukos had gathered so many armies that even if I summoned all my soldiers for the battle they didndt have a chance. My egyptians and pontic allies were about to be crushed without being able to put somethign between their cities and the seleucids .

And last bot no less, the homeland of Alexander has already conquered pretty much of greece, eastern europe, nothern europe and were about to put down the sarmatians in my last save.

All these campaigns were played with no cheats and in Medium difficulty in all the settings

Now I dont know if there is real problem with this or is just the way these factions are supposed to work. I noticed the pattern after playing almost 5 consecutive campaings that ended in almost the same result: These factions somehow are able to dominate the game sooner or later.

I would like to know if someone else has noticied it.

    Thanks for your time

First of all, welcome to the forums! The problem you are facing has been seen many times before, but the team decided not to balance the old mod again, but to move on to a new project. In fact, you're playing one of the oldest versions of RTR that are still around.

I therefore recommend you to download Fate of Empires, the latest release of our new VII series, which has a great gameplay and many innovations, including mechanisms to avoid stack spamming

The Macedonian and Selucid expansions are well known issues, in fact Macedonia become known as the "black death" in RTRPE. However, think of it as a challenge to overcome. Greece is very wealthy in terms of resources so if you can conquor and hold these regions, you should find your financially capable of challenging them.

Use assasins to sabotage buildings in your enemies heartland.

Its not impossible to beat them and think of the satisfaction you will have when you finally do. Its the challenge that keeps you coming back for more.

    Good Luck

Am I the only one to whom in most of the campaigns happened that Ptolemaics conquered Seleucids?

The black screens when taking screenshots are a result of having anti-aliasing turned on in the game's options.
