    Default ATI driver problem (surprise)

ok so after a search i didnt find quite what i was looking for...

i bought a Diamond ATI Radeon 5770 card today and put it in my computer recently, i USED to have an Nvidia 8800 GT, and i uninstalled all of the Nvidia software

now, i installed the drivers and went to play Bad Company 2 and it runs fine for like 3 seconds, then the screen freezes up and then everything goes all wonky, the screen starts flickering white and black and i have to exit the game

in NTW, the game freezes, and then the screen goes black, then the game comes back up for about 1-3 seconds and then it happens again, this is a continual problem

ive been trying to install the 11.1 drivers and im not sure that its working, here is a screenshot:

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

ugh, this is so frustrating... any help? thanks

Stick with the 10.5 drivers. Uninstall the old ones, run Driver Sweeper in Safe Mode, then install.

Uninstall the graphics driver then run driver sweeper and restart the PC after that install the latest drivers like Sir Ron said you can install 10.5 ATI Catalyst that's stable and i'm using 10.12 so you can install that as well.

BC-II has many issues on ATI cards i used to get BSODs while playing it until i fiddled with some sound settings on it, NTW should work fine though.

ATI has shoddy drivers. I've said it before, I've seen more threads about it that "NVidia drivers" threads so I'll say it again.

ATI (now AMD I guess) drivers are also a pain in the ass to completely remove, a simple uninstall works with Nvidia but AMD drivers cling to various nooks and crannies like shed pubic hair

Bollocks. The last time ATI had shody drivers was back in the 8500 days which was 10 years ago. These days you get monthly updates and hotfixs. People are way to quick to blame "the drivers" when inactually fact just as in this case the issue is pebkac (like with jakes 5870 as well).

Do as suggested and remove your old drivers using Driver sweeper, if the problems you were done to the driver set then the tech forums I visit would be coated with threads with people having the same problem.

There was that driver set causing displays to go grayscale for 5000 series cards 12 months ago. That was no minor thing. And by shoddy I just mean general stability and usability issues not large flaws.

That's a game issue not a driver issue just like issues with shadows and gefprce cards in RTW. These issues have been around for ages if and/ati or nvidia could have fixed these issues with a driver fix it would have been done ages ago.

I have had a few problems with ATI drivers - which is why I'll be going Nvidia for my next GPU upgrade; I had four Nvidia cards before my first ATI and didn't get one problem with them. I could even install new drivers over old without an issue. If I try that with ATI, then it's issues aplenty - after a few problems caused by that, I now always uninstall the old driver first. So, isn't ATI's own uninstaller software sufficient?

NTW, did you uninstall AMD's HDMI sound driers in Device Manager? NTW does not work with them.

I'd recommend the 10.7, I haven't had any problems with those.

Too many have had problems from 10.6 to 11.1. If you don't believe me, check out the Tech forums and the "official" CA forums.

Well it could be that the card is the problem. It is an ATI card after all.
