    Default Plate armour?

Hello everyone I was just wondering what people's opinion was of the use of plate armour in TATW. Originally I wanted to start a poll but I am new at this and don't know how yet.

So, dogmatic lore junkie or is the gothic knight the height of romantic imagination?
Personally I don't mind a vambrace here or a breast plate there, but on the whole I prefer the good ol' Hauberk. Think William the conqueror.

Personally I like the choices of armor portrayed in the movies for all the various races/kingdoms except for Isengard and Gondor. Saruman's Uruk's should have had more chainmail and leather as a form of armor instead of a full set of plate mail.
While I love the design of Gondor in the movies and the fact that they are using full plate (which isn't exactly what Tolkien had envisioned when he wrote about them I think), I personally feel that the Gondorian design that was shown during the prelude portion of the first movie which showcased the Last Alliance was perfect. Just a simple breastplate covered by a tabard featuring the white tree, not some full out plate tank

I'm lore junkie myself but as far as the game goes I like their armor. I have 5 campaigns going at once frankly because I get bored with the look and style of play for a faction after awhile. The Gondor Armor is actually pretty cool, I have considered doing some work with the Arnor units to crossover but in the end I just played Arnor.

haha i agree with you two
However the movie makes plate armor look ah helpful as leather armor, you see full plate gondorians being killed from a single hit from a sword many times throughout the movie when in reality itd simply bounce off

Even though it isn't really lore accurate, in the way it's done, it's just awesome.

Isengard has my favourite armour design from the films! i love the uniformed function over appeal. strap some steel to their bodies and away they go

i like most of the armor that is portrayed in the movies.
rohirrim armor is well done and the plundered armor of the orcs is great, too.
easterling armor is my favorite, looks pretty exotic and the haradrim outfits are great, too.
only the gondorian armor looks more like a tin can than an armor... they should have just have it based on the armors of arnor...

It should be based upon it yes, as the Gondorian army looked different, but I like the way they did the Gondorian armour as well.

I have always liked the Gondorian plate and chain armour. It's just such a sharp, distinctive look. I really like the imagery from the movies - no, it's not 100% accurate, but it looks really good, and I think TATW was wise to use it. I am, however, very glad that they didn't go the whole 'gothic knight' look with full plate, but instead used plate/chain, as full plate would not have fit in Middle-earth.

On Saruman's Uruks, plate armour is actually easier to produce than chainmail once you know how. The cheaper, cast-iron looking plate armour of the Uruk-Hai really was a good way to go. It gave Saruman a style apart from anyone else, while showing him as being an industrialist and an innovator. It's a good look for him.

Gondorian armour looks awesome, exactly like in the movies. Why is this not enough for some of you? There are far more important problems than that. Like Rohan's landscape for example.

You said it yourself, exactly like in the movies, not like in the books Thought I like it Still sometimes I think how they could look if they would be based on books...

I like the "movie first" approach which this mod more or less follows (i.e. if the film trilogy and/or related books and materials from the license provide a clear vision of a given entity, use it). One thing I liked about WETA's designs is how they sought to avoid allowing any Middle Earth culture to become too closely inspired by a single real-world one (like how they mixed in some Pacific islander and Mesoamerican elements so that the Haradrim just didn't look like Bedouins, or used both Near Eastern and Far Eastern elements for the Easterlings).

That said, if the team implements different skins for different levels of armor upgrades, I wouldn't mind seeing the plated Gondorian and Isengard troops start with just heavy mail prior to upgrades.

I love the designs of all the factions, they look very distinctive and good. Gondor only really shines when you have late game units composed of plate all around. And Isenguards Army just have that machinelike look to them.

I don't know if this will count, but I love Rhûn's armor. It's gold, shiny, dragon-esque, and just absolutely stunning and wonderful! Gondor is in second followed by Isengard.

My problem with the easterling armour (apart from the obvious incongruities with the tolkien books) is that it does not fit their lifestyle or geography. Balcoth, wainriders and their descendents were nomads of the steppe, when I first watched the Return of the King I thought that the troops ambushed by faramir were easterlings, and that the golden troopers were of Harad which is more civilized.

the equipment of the easterlings is mostly bronze rather than iron or steal, which accounts for the goldish colour. in terms of technology, advanced does not necessarily mean cool looking. bronze scales are possibly prettier than mail, but not as light and strong

I don't think it is bronze, it would be silly that rhun uses bronze when everyone around them uses iron or steel, the colour is probably just artistic flair. I agree with you though that more advanced is not necessarily cooler looking, that is one of my peeves with this wonderful mod.
What I was saying was it seems silly that a bunch of scythio-hun mongoloids are strutting the battlefeild in full body armour.

PS is that sig. of yours from a movie? if so you should tell me it looks good
PPS I think you guys give orcs a bum rap when it comes to armour production, atleast for the Uruks, maybe not Goblins
