    let the witchhunt begin!

Seriously though, i does seem that the majority of professors and lecturers in University's (in the US and UK) are left-wing.
    Why is that?

Is that left-wing compared to the rest of the world?
Or just left-wing compared to the average American?

I think you Americans who get into contact with other cultures become more moderated.

Im pretty sure I was joking around *note the smiley

but I think you're wrong about that. There are plenty of people at college that hold different views than a professor. They can challenge the professor's ideas, its very much allowed.

It's those students that aren't politically well-established or cognizant that we should be worried about.

    Exactly.

Not that there arent plenty of educated right-wing types, but rather than complaining about left-wing bias in higher education, maybe they should try and even it out by trying to increase the amount of right-wing professers.
After all, bias is never good, which ever side it comes from.

No clearly the answer is since the American left wing loves AA so much there should be an Affirimative action program thru out the colleges in the US that ensure the right wing receive proper number of positions compared to their population.

    Why is that?
Because they never had to leave the "Ivory
Towers" and get employed in the private sector.
They owe their livlihood to government/university
funded employment; hence, they will lean towards
socialism and left-wing causes. They never had to
    compete in the private sector.
On the other hand, someone who is an independent,
self-employed, electrical contractor will lean towards
captialism. He doesn't need the gov't/university institution
    paycheck to make a living.

This is assuming that professors have always had the government to pay for them and have never had to work for themselves...which is absolute speculation and more than likely 90% wrong (nothing is ever 100% wrong).

People like George W. Bush "never had to leave the Ivory Towers" whereas most college professors call from at most the middle class and have hardly been supported their entire life.

It has been statistically proven that the more educated a person is, the more liberal they are.

I'm sorry if that offends, but look at the extremes of both factions.

Extreme Rightie, he's a rural semi-employed alcoholic who is deeply religious and pretty much believes everything he hears from people he trusts.

Extreme Leftie, he's an urban fancy coffee drinking homosexual who doesn't believe in god and pretty much only believes what he tells himself.

omg!!! the crimes ! the humanity :
hardcore support for a guaranteed income...

    hardcore feminist ...

The unofficial research arm of affirmative action interest groups like Society for American Law Teachers...

the driving force behind the notorious 1998 faculty walkouts protesting the end of affirmative action...

    affirmative action protests...

unrelenting focus on softening the criminal justice system...

    pro-gambling activism (that's leftism ?! )

Part of the UCLA power-lesbian troika ...

    The King of All Petitions...

distinguished herself by co-authoring a widely-signed Historians Against the War petition with the help of usual suspect Joyce Appleby...

    This militant lesbian feminist...
what a pile of bs, culminating in :
Beaten up as a child for his slight stature, Lal’s Napoleonic complex has taken the form of snobbish hatred of President George W. Bush.
Seriously though, i does seem that the majority of professors and lecturers in University's (in the US and UK) are left-wing.
    Why is that?
    simple :
has to do with the very essence of the right and the left, ie of the choice betwen local and universal values. People favouring the laters, are more likely to be drawn to universities...
onsequently, more *radicall* leftists will be drawn too...

Im not American, I'm English. And quite left-wing english at that.
There are very few real left-wing politicians in the US, as far as i can see, so i'd agree that the US left is actually somewhat skewed to the right, compared the the rest of the world

thats pretty much what i was trying to get at, albeit in a slightly sarcastic way.

no, the us is somewhere in the middle, Europe is the most leftist continent in the world, the us is in the middle, and the rest are relatively to the right.

Forced to disagree; Europe onm the whole, if taken as a single political mass, is centre. Scandanavia pulls it to the left, but the UK and France etc pull it toward the right. The US is to the right of Europe so I wonder where that puts it...
