Broken Crescent's BAI
I'd like to know if there is any documentation or guide on the AI that BC is using, I'd like to get some info about it.
It's been a while since I've played any other TW mod and maybe I am mistaken saying that BC's BAI is great. Not perfect, no, far from that, but it is at least not bad (which you can't say about vanilla Med2).
- I have seen many time the AI troops retreating from the melee fight they've been engaged in and countering my flanking cavalry and completely ruining the charge. Something that I have NEVER seen in a TW game before.
- Archers and other missile troops are extremely agile and hard to charge with cavalry if simply double-clicked and not micromanaged.
- If you're outnumbered, you are bound to get flanked and enveloped from as many sides as possible by the enemy. Especially cavalry tends to flank my troops - archers in particular.
- If the AI has a lot of cavalry, it is almost certain that it'll be utilized to a maximum efficiency, and if my general is the only cav unit in the army, they will surround and slaughter it.
Maybe I'm just easily impressed. What comments do you have on the AI? Is it good, average or great, in your opinion?
Of course, if the odds are 1:1, then it is almost certain that the player will win, the AI is not THAT good. But it is guaranteed that you'll have casualties at least.
Yet at the same time I have had some surprising defeats, especially if the enemy has lots of cavalry.

Re: Broken Crescent's BAI
It's not as good as the BAI in APE:TI but that's an ETW mod with some very extensive tweaking. It is however better than TATW (the only other MTW2 game I've ever played). In light of recent detailed discussions about unit information: I'd say it is somewhere between good and very good
Everything you say is true, and I find it generally challenging. However there are also plenty of times that the Ai just sits there and gets hammered by missiles and artillery without taking any action. The units always spread out if they are ranged, and fire back, but they don't take further action... they will sit and be annihilated. If they aren't ranged, they don't even spread out, they may just sit there. This is not always the case...
Another positive is watching the campaign AI maneuver and try to surround enemy armies with reinforcements when possible.

True, though more often than not the AI attacks in such cases in my experience. But of course there is plenty of room to improve. The AI reinforcements sometimes just chill in the corner and not make any move. (Which is sometimes crucial for the victory.) I really, really, hope the AI will receive even more attention and development in future.

Re: Broken Crescent's BAI
Recently I've seen massive AI armies - vastly outnumbering me - just move around on the far side of the map and not make any attack for what seems like hours. It's like units are twirling around in place while others line up and then decide they are lined up wrong and move somewhere else, etc, etc. It can go on and on.
It's annoying because I know that attacking means certain defeat, but holding where I am might give victory, or at least end up with massive casualties on both sides, but we cant' give credit to the AI for knowing that here, it's clearly bugging out. IF I could fast forward x20 or x30 I'd do that and just end the battle, but there is no way to do that or retreat from these situations when attacked. Exiting the battle gives you massive auto casualties. So I spend a frustratingly long amount of time waiting and trying to lure them on the attack with some light horse -- but they don't always go for it.
