Default Why are the "good" factions fighting each other and allying with "bad" factions?

I don't know if this is intentional or not but in my two playthroughs so far some very wierd things have happened as far as diplomacy...

The dwarves wont ally with ANYONE, even if I want to offer a settlement in return for alliance, and the option isn't even there even though Im not allied with their enemies or anything, and they start wars with Dale or elves.

What's more, the Dwarves allied with Rhun right as I was wiping them out and caused my relations with the dwarves to go into the toilet because I finished wiping them out.

The "high Elves" allied with the ORCS of gundabad forcing me into a truce, then when they lay siege to me and I defend my settlement MY alliance is broken instead of them breaking theirs... I was like ... o.O WTF?

And finally, although maybe because I was gaining too much territory, my relations with my allies went from "good" and "amiable" to "poor" and "bad" or whatever. For no reason at all, except maybe for getting more territory.

Anyone have any idea why the diplomacy is acting so wierd??

Because the AI of TW games are inheriently bad...

I'm always looking out for my so called "allies". If i play basic medieval 2 or mods that simply enchances features of it, I don't bother allying at all as it means nothing...

lol sorry I meant that they wont ally with any of the good factions to then only arbitrarily ally with an evil faction on the brink of destruction lol.

And to the subsequent question, its the latest one the game autoupdates through my Steam.

If you have the 2.1 non-modded version of TATW, I am pretty certain there is a reason this is so. For example, all the good races may be allied with the SE. The dwarves often come into conflict with the SE (see "The Hobbit") and so declare war on them. No other good race can then ally with the Dwarves then as long as they are at war with the SE.

The dwarves are always the ally of Dale. In my games, they often ally with HE and Eriador as well.

Unlike vanilla total war, there is always a logic to the diplomacy in good mods like TATW and SS. Sometimes you need to look closely at the diplomacy screen, map borders, and relative military strength to figure things out. But thankfully there is also a degree of randomness that keeps the game re-playable (I had Harad and Rhun duking it out over Khand recently).

    Well said.
And on the other hand - it is not as big problem according to the lore either.

The Last Alliance was a way back - cause the free people of ME cant agree to join forces against their common foe. For elves and dwarves or men to start a fight is no big fuss since they all are troughout suspicious or even unfriendly at each other anyway.
The evil forces quite likely like to punch each other's face (unless Sauron is looking) to. We might only for sure know (?) this about orch kind as in tTT or RotK, humans are quite known to kill each other off too trough the history...
The fact that evil and good factions get allied, well Gondor have keept haradins as at least vasalls in the past so its OK. To get allied with a orch faction is wierd yes, but thats a flaw where we have to accept the engine cant be all controlled.

Lol Rhun and Harad going at it sound funny. Although I kinda thought that it was a vanilla game thing, I thought I would ask if there was any way to make the diplomacy make sense.

Click my signature to go to FROME. Download 2.0 and install 2.05 then go to scouts extended edition mod (it's in submods too) and install that. Suddenly you have a lore-accurate game where no good factions go to war with eachother.

    Sound good?

Lux, would you mind using the Questions Thread for questions you have, instead of creating new threads?
