Default This mod makes me sick....

it really does. but that is a complement to your mod! played a few battles last night, and after each battle i could only shake my head at the terror and destruction of WW1. Of course this mod only barely scratches the surface of that terrible conflict, but the point does get across. Even heroic victories in this mod come at such a terribly high price.

One battle last night was myself as the Austrians, attacking an Ottoman fort. My artillery blew the place to smithereens. But i still lost 80% of my force going through the breeches, as the artillery couldnt completely clear out the fort. Two times i had to withdraw my troops and commence bombardment again before sending the infantry back in.

Another battle was a small German force with machine guns defending a town against a overwhelming Belgian assault. It was crazy. The Belgians charged the German line over and over before finally, with 90% losses they withdrew.

As I said, this mod shows a FRACTION of the terror of the Great War, but it is enough to make me shake my head in amazement that young men went through that kind of fighting. When technology had surpassed tactics.

Again, good job mod team. I think you have accomplished what you set out to do.

There's your issue You need high for unit details to keep bodies around. I agree, this mod is wonderful.

I was just playing a battle and almost lost! That's amazing! I never lose to the A.I., not even close! The A.I horseshoed around the two units on my right flank, while I decimated their right flank. I had to send in most of my units to destroy them, the Australians saved the day though! My losses were high, but a great battle!

To give you an Idea of Casualties in the war lets look at the Battle of the Somme. Allied Forces to include British, French, British Commonwealth and Imperial Forces, and the French Imperial forces such as Algerian troops and the like, totaled 623,907 men , 100 tanks, and 782 aircraft. For the Germans the same battle cost them any where of 465,000 - 595,294 men. They had roughly the same amount of troops on each side going into the battle.

In the first day alone of the battle of the Somme Britain lost 60,000 men. This was before the time of mass conscription and so to this day the Somme which wiped out whole battalions has a lasting effect on the British. On a side not the author JRR Tolkien is the sole survivor of his unit. It is said that he wrote the much of what would become both the Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings while in the Trenches as a way to escape the horrors that he saw all around him. It puts into perspective why the man would go on for pages about song or a flower in his books.

I feel like artillery is obnoxiously overpowered in this mod. I love it though.

Also, why do generals become available after 16 turns? That seems long.

The artillery is overpowered yes....Because it was in WW1 Don't worry, research was done prior to making the stats, and artillery accounted for about 62 or 67% (can't remember which) of all casualties in the war, so it's actually quite realistic

As for the generals, that's something to do with the startpos...May or may not be sorted in startpos v2.0 (general mod version v4.6)

The Generals bug will be fixed in the patch we will be putting out soon.
The artillery will also be made a tad less powerful in certain ways, only a little though. Shrapnel shot will also be removed. That stuff is rediculously overpowered as is.

Casulties are too high anyway, especially in open field battles.

Men crossing open fields in the face of machine guns is suicide. The tactics of WWI had more in common with the American Civil War then it did with WWII. Mass bayonet charges were the norm after hours of artillery prep. What tended to happen in the Trench warfare was that the artillery would telegraph the location of where the attack would be, whichever side was being shelled would crawl into their dugouts and bunkers and wait out the attack while taking few casualties. Once the artillery lifted they would climb back out into their positions and wait for the attack to come in. Neither side really used creeping bombardments as they were afraid that their artillery would hit their own men. So the defenders often had a lot of time to prep for the infantry attack since it took a while for infantry to move across no mans land. Once the attack was committed though it was damn near impossible to get turned around in a hurry and so the defender would rake with machine guns, call in their artillery and mortars and annihilate the attack. Repeat ad nauseum and that is how you get the spectacular body counts of the first world war.

Very true, but later on in the war (1917 - 1918) the creeping barrages were improved immensly.

suicide now a days, back then it was just the way they fought. there wasn't sufficient offensive weaponry throught the war. Though, other fronts saw a completley different war.

First World War was karma wreaking havoc on a technologically advanced, but tactically inept, Western world... Any how it was still absurdly revolting how many people died in that conflict as a result of somewhat incompetent commanding officers.

makes me sick how much potential it has and how little of it will ever be realized due to the zero mod support and the fact that the "confirmed" sdk is another blatant lie.
