Connecting a PS3 to my computer monitor
Hi all.
A friend of mind has kindly donated his PS3 to me for 1 week and I have promptly rented out metal gear solid 4 which I have been meaning to play ever since it was released nearly 3 years ago!
Well theres not the small matter of playing this game in HD. Our TV downstairs is NOT HD, so I'm wondering if connecting the PS3 to the HDMI port on my GTS 450 graphics card using a standard HDMI to HDMI cable? The graphics card is connected to my monitor via a standard D-SUB cable.
My monitor is a CIBOX C2201 with only a D-SUB input.
Please advise.

Re: Connecting a PS3 to my computer monitor
^ The monitor you linked to says it has dvi connector but you say yours only has D-sub? Your fairly screwed I'd say, im pretty sure graphics cards in general only do output, so I'm pretty sure you cant route it through that.

Re: Connecting a PS3 to my computer monitor
I'm not entirely sure on this, but shouldn't the HDMI port of a graphics card be an outgoing port to directly connect your screen to? As such, connecting the PS3 to the card won't be of any use to you, because the port on the graphics card is not designed to receive data, and surely not to relay those data to another outgoing port of the card. The only solution that comes to my mind here would be to directly connect the PS3 and the screen via an HDMI cable, but that's obviously not possible with your screen.

Re: Connecting a PS3 to my computer monitor
Someone should move this to tech help section of site possibly?
I don't spos he'd have a tv tuner card lying around? other then that quite impossible...
Im sortof confused his vid-card has hdmi and dsub outputs, i thought anything that had hdmi ports had dvi ports instead, to be clear by d-sub you mean the blue ports with the blue ended cables?

Thansk for the replies!
Shaoi this is the only connector my monitor supports...

My GTS 450 has a HDMI port and two DVI-D ports. I use a DVI-D to D-SUB converter to graphics card to my monitor.
What kind of TV tuner card would allow me to play PS3 on my monitor??

Re: Connecting a PS3 to my computer monitor
^ ah that makes more sense.
As for tv tuner cards, that depends on what sort of outputs a ps3 has, any of them would allow your input into your pc thou... from personal advice thou if you haven't got one, and already gone through hassle of setting it up.. do not get one, ever.. they are a nightmare, and any of the cheap ones would probably not be high definition in anycase.
My most practical advice for you would be find a friend with a hd tv or monitor, and either take ps3 over to there place and play lives, or convince them to swap for a week so you can play.

Re: Connecting a PS3 to my computer monitor
Your going to have problems here, you could get a hdmi to vga convertor which would allow you to get a picture output on the screen however you will encounter one massive problem, audio. Unless you have a speaker system that supports optical input you will need to get your hands on a tv with hdmi.
