    Default If the Muslim brotherhood got to power in Egypt and closed the Suez canal

    What do you think? What would the west do?

    The reason I think TMB (the muslim brotherhood) would get to power is: They are simply the strongest opposition group in Egypt. They would get to power, somehow..

    The reason they are dangerous imo:
    a) they are islamists. This per definition means they are religious-extremists who want to remove secularism.
    b) they have a history of terrorism and violence (see their activities in Syria and what they did to the populations they controlled). While it is possible this society has improved, I do not think so.

    That is ridiculous; hating West does not mean they have to close Suez.

    More possible, if Muslim Brotherhood, or other Islamic organizations got the power, West, particularly EU, would so paranoid that they would start a second Suez Crisis with Israel again.

    So because they "hate" the west they'll close a major canal system and lose a hell of a lot of cash along with it. Makes sense to me.

    They wouldn't. It would mean the loss of a lot of money and they'd piss off most of the world. So unless they are really extremely retarded, they wouldn't close the Suez Canal.

    Because you don't know what the Muslim Brotherhood is?

    Not going to happen.

    Even if it did, West would not attack, it would just help legitimize the supposed Muslim Brotherhood government. That kind of gunboat diplomacy led to the disillusionment with the West in the region to begin with, more of it will not help.

    More realistically would be the possibility that the Muslim Brotherhood might close the Suez Canal to warships to hinder western military efforts in the middle east and central asia, which under international treaty Egypt is currently obliged to keep it open to.
