Fixing diplomacy with retinue
Pardon my spelling...
Most of us noticed that diplomacy barely works in RTW
I had a thought. I can never produce diplomat with high diplomacy values - maybe that is the problem.
If we could mod diplomat retinue so it creates a very highly skilled diplomat, maybe them we could finally get protectorates. Anyone tired that?
While playing I saw only 2 retinues "Linguistic" and something like "hostage" are there more? (Have not looked at files yet)

I tried some changes and guess what?
Yes you can make diplomacy much better.
1) Every time diplomat fails you get negative "points" - so consider saving/reloading before negotiations or change BadDiplomat into something like "Learning from mistakes" - So you get positive skills when you fail.
Also to boost your skills, bride other diplomats.
Staying in the province of the allies gets you "Hostage" skill.
2) Remove Anti-traits (so you can gather more positive traits)
3) Remember to keep good traits by moving them to younger diplomat.
I will see if I can make some mod for this

Did you try to protectorate some faction, when you made those changes?

I got my diplomat to skill 10 (thats a max right?)
Unfortunatly protectorate still did not work... Even after offering territory and 100000
Darn... Maybe Gauls have still too much territory at this point

don't think it depends on your diplomats, it's just the ai. they 'll offer a ceasefire and then attack again the next turn and stuff like that...

I'll bet you were tempted by an offer like that though, huh?
They forgot to ask for Rome too...
