Unfortunate for the civilians in the area, hope both side can find peace.

that would be a proper balls out war, with frontal infantry charges, lots of villages on fire, jungle warfare, malaria and booby traps. The Thais might finally get the chance to use that aircraft carrier they got.

It would also, ironically, probably result in the destruction of that temple they're fighting about.

Official first day of war in Croatia (as we count it), and later Bosnia, started with two men killed. Ended with 200 000 dead and 2 million refugees.

May be, may be not. I read about the temple and dispute before, and if I remember correctly they had border clashes for years. Some wars are fought like that until one side backs down diplomatically, some never start, and some start so quietly and years later historians are not sure what to put as the starting date.

I would just quote the important part of this article.

At the center of the dispute – the grounds surrounding a 900-year-old Hindu temple, which both sides claim is theirs. The temple sits on land awarded to Cambodia by an international court and is now a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Pretty much suggest that Thailand is the one playing rouge here. Now, should US conduct Operation Allied Force II on Thailand?

Fighting has been continuing for twenty years, so it is really not surprised there is another skirmish... again...

All of this over a stupid temple. I suspect that this is just dickwaving distraction from Thailand's real opposition concerns from fugitive former leaders after the 06 coup.

Aren't the "yellows" the more conservative faction in thailand? I don't think they are aiming for an "anti-mubarak"-like (=anti-establishment) revolution.

Well, the current problem is Redshirts, not Yellowshirts; Yellowshirts are fearing that Redshirts would get their demands and brought back the old government. Such deep division causes a social rift between classes.

Overall, Thailand's problems are same as those in Middle East - poverty, high unemployed rate and overpopulation, with overpopulation as the original cause for other twos. Anyway, I don't think that can be solved without a strong economy or a policy of depopulation, so I would say Thailand (and most Second World countries, including China and India) would remain in chaos for sometimes, until some miracles solve those problems (either accidently a plague happened or a heavy depopulation caused by war, neither are nice way though).

Anyway, such "killing population by war" is a common political strategy using by Chinese leaders constantly.

    howsabout a mass migration??

what's curious to me is why both would seem eager for a war; surely peace would be more conducive to development and bloody bloody battles and wars simply invite higher population growth and births if history is any judge.

well it's a policy they havent been too keen on using these past 30 odd yrs, seems.

colonisation seems like the best bet for overpopulation though i didnt know thailand's overpopulation was that bad (can't be that bad if ladyboys are such a fixture of thai nightlife now)
    colonisation where?
i was going to say mars or luna but i fear we'll have to wait some 50 odd yrs before that's even viable.

And indeed China is troubling by overpopulation now - one mistake of CCP there would be millions angry, jobless Chinese that rioting.

I say that idea is even worse than exile population into middle of desert.
