When I start Shogun/Medieval, I get a flashing screen and no video for the intro movies, though there is sound. I am running windows 7. Otherwise, the game plays OK. Anyone know how to fix it?

Probably it's codec... If you have ffdshow, you need to add 'medieval_tw.exe' to 'don't use ffdshow in:' in 'DirectShow control' tab in configuration.
If that doesn't work, create in folder where you installed the game file 'skipcredits.txt'.
You can also try to run medieval in compatibility with windows 2000.
Sorry for my bad english , I don't mind correcting!

skipcredits.txt only works for medieval. For shogun you will want to rename the actual .mpg (or .avi?) files in the "credits" directory.

Sorry, I'm a noob in these matters. Could you explain in a bit more detail? I get it might be a codec problem, but do I have to disable something or install another codec? I use compatibility windows 98 or 2000, so compatibility mode can't be the problem. After the screen flashes, there is a pink page in black background that appears, and slowly turns white, while the sound is playing. It is very strange.
Also, is it normal that there are no subtitles in the audio options? There are in every other game, including Shogun.

There is no subtitle option in the menu or elsewhere.

Try to create skipcredits.txt file inside the game folder (e.g. c:\Program Files\Medieval - Total War - Gold Edition). This is probably best solution of your problems. I hope you know how to create empty file (right click > new > txt document). I use win XP but it should look similar.

Yes but I want to enable the intro movie, not skip it. I can live with the flashing screen.

Do you really want to watch this movie each time you start the game? You can watch this movie whenever you want via e.g. windows media player. It's inside credits\legals folder.
