create as many trade agreements as you can, and send merchantmen to the trade nodes at sea as soon as you can. When you take a low income privince chose to "liberate" it, instead of annexing it to your empire (if you're given the option of course, not all provinces can be liberated), it will become a protectorate, and instead of giving the usual pittance in taxes, it will give you half of it's net income, which is much better. On top of it you'll be even able to trade with them, adding further income.

A good way, in terms of a proper economy is to use the ivory trade nodes, provided you have a naval presence.
An easy way is to loot a region after you conquer it; though this has other repercussions.
Another easy way is to raid trade lanes with your navy, though this doesn't always make much money.

Also, invest heavily in your infrastructure and lower taxes one notch. This will initially reduce your income, but after a while the additional boost to your economy really pays off.

Trade ships. Make a few merchant ships, send them to places like the Ivory Coast, and Boston etc., and it will rake in plenty of money.

create as many new trade agreements as possible while also spamming the trade ships to go to the different trade areas. Other than that, just increase the infrastructure withing your land.

for me i make lots of trade agreements as many as possible, smash and take over major trade nations like belgium, greece, portgual and etc. ( small minor nations that rely on the sea for commerce)
