    Icon5 Canada?

Hey guys...this is a great mod that you've made, only a few CTD's in my play time, but other than that it's great. So please, just humor my plea?
Given that Canada sent (keeping in mind that at the time, Canada's population was only ~10 million people total) roughly 800 000 soldiers overseas, could you guys make Canada a playable faction? There's only the one Canadian unit as of now (4.5 is what I am playing ...so if there is a newer version with more, I apologize in advance) and for unit ideas there could be the PPCLI, Royal Canadian Rifles, etc. I am Canadian, and when I saw that there was a Great War mod out, I jumped to play it. I was disappointed with Canada not being recognized further than a bit piece unit. Though I do appreciate the Canadian battalion being one of the Elite units.
Sorry if I sound like I am asking a lot, I just have no modding skills...heck, barely any computer skills, and it is light years ahead of my ability to even attempt anything of this calibre.
Thanks for humoring me at least!

it's not really possible to add a country to the mod that doesnt have their homeland on the game map. same reason the U.S. isnt a faction.

Some team member (maybe even Mitch, I don't remember correctly) said that they are planning to make an ANZAC faction, so maybe even Canada and others. About the unit rosters, they will surely be much bigger, so expect more Canadian units, as their contribution to the fight was huge indeed.

I remember reading somewhere on the 5.0 preview thread that they figured out a way to get the U.S. as a playable faction in the Grand Campaign - it just required a tricky bit of programming or something. Anyways, if they can pull of the same thing with Canada that would be awesome...Anyways...I guess I will post this at the other place Achea said to...
    And thanks Achea!

They won't be playable as a faction, but their units will be available to use. Though it won't be as simple as just recruiting them

We've actualy taken to refusing to make any country, if a person from that country asks. On principle.

    No, Im kidding.

But Im sure you understand if we created every country for every time someone from that country asks, well it would be impossible.

And as like said before, including countries that are not on the campaign map already, is currently impossible.

That being said, I definatly 100% agree that a custom battle Canadian faction is very important, their impact on the war deserves that.

Considering that there was dozens of nations involved I understand. For the custom battles though, I can't imagine it would be much different then the British units/uniforms. Just a few differences, units/unit names.
I guess I'll stop complaining now, as this is a truly fun mod...
    Thanks for humoring me.

yeah it would be great to see a Canadian faction included for custom battles!

also be cool to add in a CSA custom battle faction for fans of Harry Turtledoves, The Great War trilogy.

Hmm, well I look forward to any future release with further inclusion of Canadians. And I will still play this, as it is still a crazy fun mod...
Should I be worried that I find utter destruction and death "crazy fun"?

Registered just to post in this thread... Arthur Currie. He was a bloody genius. Also, the last 100 days of the war are called canada's hundred days for a reason. Also, the germans called the canadians stormtroopers for a reason. Also, we lost 1 out of 10 troops we sent over there. I know exactly how canada can be implemented: Camps in great britain or france. Shouldn't be too hard, just give em a reaaally small territory that incidentally has a reaallly good economy to compensate for the lack of a home territory to power the economy. At the very least, if you make the final decision to keep canada off, AT THE VERY LEAST, put canadian units. And maybe even our buddy currie as a general, and maybe give him a "canadian" trait that does nothing other than informing less knowledgeable players that he's not a brit.

    They have Canadian units.

On the subject of Currie, I agree that he was our best general that our nation ever produced, but I would not call him a genius. He was thorough, methodical and had an acute sense of detail, yes, but you also have to consider how contrasted that looks when compared to Douglas Haig, or Nivelle. Throw him into the Second World War, and while I am sure he would have still had sucess, he would not have stood out nearly as much as he does with his early twentieth century brethern.

@Frozen Canuck, yeah that camp idea was something that I was also thinking could be done, but at this point, if the mod team was to make a nation just because people from that nation ask for it...
    yeah they'd never be done.
But really, Currie was a genius at the time. Of course if you threw him into the second world war he would not have made quite as much of a difference, but that is like comparing hockey players from Gretzky's days to hockey players today. You really can't... Different war = totally different way it was fought and tactics had progressed. Now I am sure that if Currie was still around and still an active general by the time of WW2, his ingenuity would have eventually led to the formation of new ways of fighting in the second world war, but that is all rhetoric, and as such I will try and stay away from that nasty 'r' word.
And Achea, I think that FrozenCanuck was meaning he wanted more than just the one, semi-nondescript "Canadian Rifle Battalion" unit.
But I still think this mod is 'bloody' brilliant.

Sure, but we will be getting more in the future, as evidenced by some of the responses in this thread.

I am pretty sure he would be just as great. The current game is WAY more like the 80's and early 90's than ever before. But I agree, let's not get into rhetorics.

Agreed, Canada needs a slightly bigger role in this mod. Any way to make units arrive when historically accurate? ie. American units not available until much later in the war.

I believe they are making a building that only appears fairly late in the game called "foriegn embassy" or even "The USA enters the war". Keeping it simple is probably the best course of action.
