Default Will you feel Rome nostalgia as you felt MTW/Shogun nostalgia?

MTW2 has been announced and I just can't get rid of the feeling that I am not going to miss RTW the much I missed MTW/VI.

These are my reasons concerning the game:
    - I always found it much easier to identify myself as one of the medieval factions in Europe, it was really fun to imagine your dynasty growing, your princesses even gave you the feeling of creating imperial families. Rome never manages to achieve this. Which leads to point two
    - Rome TW diplomacy has never been a relevant part of the game. Ok...in medieval you would soon have all factions allied to you after the end of turn 2 but in Rome diplomacy is just too inconsistent to give you the feeling of doing imperial politics.
    - I never liked the music and sounds of RTW as much as I liked those of medieval
    - The campaign map AI is just too stupid. I recognized this with Rome and I see it in BI too. The Barbarians hardly ever manage to make Rome fall. The only challenge comes from the unrest within the empire.
    - In MTW the conversion of religions had a certain feeling of "turning the tide" towards it and took a while. In Rome that just happens too damn fast
    - I actually liked the 2D campaign Interface of Medieval more than the Roman one. Gave me more of a "strategic" feeling.

Rome has somehow never managed to win my heart as much as MTW did. I mean I really would return any time if the battle graphics of MTW would be somewhat better. What kept Rome alive has never been CA (well...ok they at least patched the game up to 1.6) but the mods. MTW was playable even without mods. So I played Rome for the mods actually.

And there comes an emotional factor into play too: MTW is my all time game favourite. I played it sitting in front of my computer with my boyfriend who also liked strategy games. This was a nice time.

So my question is: Do you feel yourself attached to RTW as much as MTW? Will you be sorry when it is gone?
Do you think modding for RTW will survive MTW2? (cause that is what makes a great game)? Somehow I doubt it.

(Disclamer: This is not meant to be a CA bashing post or become a CA bashing thread of any kind. They develop those games I play most! Just want to know how you are feeling about your future with RTW)

Yes i will feel nostalgia. I still remember fondly the first time i player it and experienced the 3d camapign map. I love RTw for different reasons to why i love MTW. Many people have said what the problems were with rome, and how they were better in MTW. But i just love the look, feel and sound of RTW. I will remember it fondly, as i remember MTW fondly(i still remember my greatest BYzantine dynasty).

Who didn't love the Byzantines. I am eagerly looking forward to MTW2 because I want to rebuild my Roman Empire!

    P. S.: is it nostalgia in english...if yes...sorry for my error?

I agree with you Boudicca, and I suppose I'll feel just as nostalgic as you will (not...).

I love rome just so much better than medieval. the battles were just boring for me in mtw but rome was sometrhing else. Heaps more variety too. Also the campaign was harder and more diverse, the movement points just made sense and the era is far more exciting i fell. but hey thats just my two cents :original:

I would be sorry to abandon the time frame of RTW. It's what attracted me here in the first place. I hope the game has attracted enough period enthusiasts who feel the same so we can keep it alive a bit longer, or possibly make a Roman era mod once MTWII comes out. Btw, I agree about RTW's weak spots. Especially diplomacy needs a thorough overhaul.

I never got that feeling on rome that i had for MTW , but RTR 6 gave that feeling to me back

I have the funny feeling i would play more RTW than MTW2. I have more attachment to the rome timeframe and the MTW timeframe has never really attracted me. Call me a silly little fool but i'd probably stick with my RTW mods than buy MTW untill more mods were made for it. Nothing against the game - just not my timeframe

i dono if any1 will agree with me but if RTW was really just an experiment of CA for building a perfect TW game.

i think they should have implemented the medieval time frame instead of rome first and then release RTW instead of MTW2.

the roman time frame is just much more intense and heroic.

I will feel nostalgia, all those custom battles, Mundus Magnus, all the mods I never got to try out, and so many others.

I will definitely not feel the nostalgia for R:TW that I felt for M:TW. RTW just don't have the atmosphere that M:TW had. I wasted hundreds of hours of my life on MTW, and RTW never even came close.

Mark my words: once MTW II comes out there is going to be a lot of complaining by fans of the original game about it "not living up to its potential" and how CA should have "listened". Next thing, a whole new horde of players comes in who know no better. In 4 years time, when MTW III is released, they will be complaining about MTW III not living up to its potential etc. etc. More often than not that's the way things go with sequels.

Corrected spelling in title, twas bugging me

I'll probably still be playing MTW1 by the time MTW 2 comes out... I may drop rome altogether if the engine is too similar...

I will definetly miss R:TW once M:TW II comes out. I remember when I first heard of Shogun Total War. I fell in love with the game and always told the friend who introduced me to the game how cool it would be if someone made an exact copy of S:TW but had it set in Medieval Europe. When M:TW came out I was really excited. I played the game almost as much as S:TW but never bought the Viking Invasion expansion. When I heard that R:TW was coming out I could not wait to play it. I used to check the .com site and this one (before it was .net) every day hoping to hear something new about the game. Honestly, the anticipation of the Total War games coming out has always been the most exciting aspect of the series for me. So yes, I will miss R:TW and probably return to play it quite often (there are still many mods I would love to try). I love the Roman era and don't think I'll completely give up on R:TW.

As i was playing MTW i thought i was making strategy until i first playted RTW. Why? In MTW you can never actually get good use of cavalry. If you attacked from behind or front nothing changed. This doesn't mean i don't want to play MTW2. Its my dream but MTW can never match RTW. As map RTW is much better. In MTW you can never know where they can attack you. Its easier to play MTW. I easily captured the world with byzantines just with urban militia armies. Valour is not really important in MTW or the commanders (the player) strategic mind. Just numbers. But at all ends MTW2 will be something you can't explain without playing it. I hope...

Yes I hope that too. Perhaps I was so in love with medieval because I had not anticipated such a great game. I just saw it in the store and thought "Now this could be a nice game", then I bought it and never played anything else much during the time after.

Sometimes I think that no game in the world can satisfy a build up of anticipation. That is why Rome has failed to do so. I hardly ever played vanilla Rome (except my Britons campaign) and then changed fast to RTR 1.don'tknowexactlywhatversionanymore.
