1.4.2 and 1.4.1 problems

OK, this is a long story but bear with me

I tried to install the cumulative 1.4.2 patch directly over my working 1.4 game. Unfortunately, when I launched the game nothing had changed. It still said 1.4 in the starting loading screen. I decided to uninstall 1.4 and download the 1.4.1 ready to play torrent by RedDwarf. I load up the game and its 1.4.1 in the loading screen, but it wont let me start any campaigns.
I go single player, Chaos storm, click any race and start. A few seconds after I click start it goes back to the single player menu as if nothing had happened. If I click on any button like custom battle or chaos storm the game crashes. I can click back and it will take me back to the menu.
I thought by installing the 1.4.2 patch it would fix it but when I use RedDwarfs torrent for 1.4.2 and install it, the same issue as before arises, where the campaign wont load AND it doesn't recognize the patch (the loading screen still says 1.4.1)

So long story short:
My campaign wont start, and It doesn't recognize the 1.4.2 patch

I am running windows XP and am using a kingdoms gold edition version of M2TW with a CD. I am updated to 1.5 kingdoms. I followed RedDwarfs installation steps exactly as they were written.

Using the 1.4.1+++ Ready to play Torrent, do not use 1.4.2 cumulitive Patch instead use the reguler patch then English Translation.

On the second install using ur torrents i did use the plain 1.4.2 patch then the translation

Well that sounds like Translation was installed wrong. Go back to translation thread last post I linked a self extracting file for the patch try it and see if it fixes your problem.

Nope didn't work. It just isn't recognizing the 1.4.2 patch at all

Here is what happens when I try to start a campaign. Notice how even after the 1.4.2 patch it is saying that the game is 1.4.1

Are you sure your installing patch correctly? If your sure try downloading the 1.4.2 Torrent Patch
Who knows maybe file corrupted during download?

I'm an idiot. I had the wrong install path the whole time
I still have my first problem, however, that the campaign doesn't work

EDIT: Never mind i fixed it by reinstalling the translation. Thank you sooooooo much for your help. I would give you rep but I have too few posts

Ok now that is more than likely because Translation is not being installed right. Here you can download 1.4.2 English patch in a self installer platform. If your default is other than C:\Program Files (x86)\Medieval II Total War\mods\Call_of_Warhammer
Make sure to change it to the correct one.
Note Target Folder must be Call_of_Warhammer !!!!!
