    Default My first build.

Hi, this is my final build for my first ever built and I'm just checking to make sure these parts will all work together.

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827135204 (CD Drive)

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148433 (Hard Drive)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814261077 (Graphics card, already have it)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817371031 (Power supply) - I think this power supply doesn't come with a power cable. Anyone know where I can get one?

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231277 (RAM)

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...811129066(Case)

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-070-_-Product (Processor, already have it)

And lastly, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-682-_-Product (MOBO, will be ordering when the new ones with the fix comes)

Looking to run Shogun 2 at 1920x1080, any idea what I can run it on without the framerate being choppy during big fights?
    Thanks!

I would change the HD for the samsung spinpoint F3 or the WD black caviar 1tb, go for the cheaper.

you seriously overpaid for the gpu, the added memory wont bring you benefits in such res, for the memory to be a factor you would have to have a res like 2560*1600, and this card cant handle that.. one good gtx 460 1gb version can be found for 179.99, the MSI one. There is also the AMD 6950, which starts at 239.99 with a rebate, its a saphire card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102921

the good thing is, its more power with a little more dope, and the best thing is that you can flash the bios of the 6970 and get a full functional 6970 without the added price. (if the flashing goes wrong you can revert to the original one, this is currently only in this card as far as I know)

There is also this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814121424 the gtx 560ti, which is a good card, but with a good competition in price due to the 6950 1gb version debut, they are both roughly the same in power, of course if you flash the 6970 bios, the equality is lost, and the AMD is a win, being cheaper at the same time.

the psu appears to be good, but check with mcrusty

The mobo is a good one, since its a desktop there is no sense for you to wait for the z68 chipset (unless you do rendering and some other stuff that would improve using the igpu that the SB chips come.)

Im not a fan of that case, I like things with a more toned down look, but the case is good, and at that price a good choice.

Thanks, I got the graphics card for free and the processor for $180 instead of the $350 retail price. So I can't really do a anything about it and could you tell me what solid state drive is? Do I need one?
    Thanks

the SSD is basically a flash drive with much more speed, it can make boot times much faster and the loading of program basically instant. For me its the best upgrade of any pc in terms of overal performance gains. However it wont make your fps in games better, just the loading times.

Be warned though, a SDD requires some degree of micromanagement to use without a regular HDD. Flash cells (such as those in a SSD) eventually stop being able to write new info.
This translates to a a reduced effective lifespan when compared to a HDD. Still very long, but something you should know about

do you still use the 20gb or the 30gb of the middle 90's? the deal here is that unless they fail at less than 5 years, it wont matter, we change the components of the pcs we buy pretty early.

Still its a very valid concern. But due to the way that the controllers today handle the wear is spread to entire drive, improving the life. The problem is that its going to fail terribly when the life ends.

another big problem with the SSDs is the size to price ratio when it is compared to HDD

I do not recognize the manufacture of the GPU, cpu is great, have enough ram.

As for the case, I personally have an ANTEC 900-II which I couldn't be happier with. The case is the best case I have ever had.
