Medieval Two crashing
Hey guys,
I just recently bought Medieval Total War 2 from Steam and started playing it, and I've been having alot of fun with it. But theres one problem...
I can't play big battles. Every time I try, the screen will show up, it'll show my troops, and then my whole computer restarts. My system can run it, I've quadruple checked.
1 GB RAM
AMD 3000+ Processor 2.4 GHZ (Clocked at 3.1)
Nvidia GeForce 6600 256 MB (It says 358 MB on Can You Run It.com)
Directx 9.0C
Windows XP
The only thing I DON'T have on the recommended section is the VID CARD, But even then Can You Run it says I have 358 MB on my 6600, when it only needs 256.
Anyways, I've tried everything. I've tried setting my resolution in the game to the same as my PC, upgrading, and downgrading my drivers. Putting all the settings as low as they can go, re-installing DirectX, re-installing my drivers over and over, changed my color bit to 16 bit. There's probably more I've tried that I just can't think of right now, I've been working on this for 2 days.
Do you guys have any suggestions on what to do?

Re: Medieval Two crashing
Can you run it reads shared memory. CA specs say dedicated memory. You're robbing from your processor.
This is where you have to do your own research.
Your card can but it is old and has limitations. Also, a gig of system ram is not much when Medieval2 can use 400mb by itself. I checked task manager more than a few times.
If you want big battles it will cost money.

Re: Medieval Two crashing
You are not going to fight battles, then, without a hardware upgrade.
I was hoping you could. Sorry.

Re: Medieval Two crashing
So, another question. I'm on my other computer, and I don't really use it much and I wasn't sure what it had, so I decided to look at what it has. This is all off of Can You Run It, because it's been so long since I worked with computers I don't remember how to check normally, and I don't feel like tearing anything apart.
Windows 7
G41 Intel Express Chipset (1.3 GB , so what that is in dedicated memory)
Ram is 2.9 GB
Intel Pentium Dual Core E2200 at 2.2 GHZ each
Would that be any better?

Re: Medieval Two crashing
The chipset has shown it can play it. How good depends on dedicated graphics memory.
If it was me, I'd install it and try it just to satisfy my own curiousity. If it works, I can play, If it doesn't, scratch that idea.

Re: Medieval Two crashing
Alright, I got it installed. When it tries to start up, it says MTW2 has encountered an unspecified error and will now exit. What's the deal now?

Re: Medieval Two crashing
Either it's a bad install or the computer won't run the game.
Steam being what it is, I'd verify the game cache integrity.

Re: Medieval Two crashing
Well, I fixed it, and I went ahead and went to custom battle, and put 2300 soldiers on each side of the armies, and gave it a shot, with blizzard like conditions and everything on high, just to see what the computer could do, and it ran it just fine, not even a bit of lag. Thanks for your help buddy.
