    Default about archers and cavalry

i would like to know your plans about heavy cavalry and longbowmen

by one side, i would like to have them as they did, very very very effective, but in the other side, against the weak AI i could feel like im cheating massing archers and infantry against the surely poor army and tactic of AI
and in MP battles everybody would like to be england and buy lots of longbowmen

and what about the x-bowmen? i think xbow was banned by the Pope because the easy for a villager to kill a knight with no training with its xbow, so the pope banned it and ordered to be used only against muslim
the point is that against heavy slow armored units the xbow should be lethal, what would you do? tone it down? or...

what are your plans for those units?

    Ok, archers role in MP:

Basically, no army cannot have missile units. It's possible but to make it work you'd need perfect circumstances, and don't even think about waiting around. Archers themselves are toned down alot from RTW to make them more of a support unit, but they are still a vital part of a battle. For example (now this doesn't happen in every MP match), I may be fighting someone in an MP and we've linedup our two armies but aren't ready to attack. So the skirmishing starts. That IMO is one of the biggest factors in a battle. If my archers lose and get killed or routed then yours have a free shot at my whole army, which therefore means I get shot to pieces or I go in for an attack.

We haven't done the longbowmen of the high and late periods yet, but they will most likely act like an overpowered version of these, which would mean that your army would gain an advantage in a battle.

Crossbowmen have a higher missile attack against more armoured units. That means it'd be a waste to send them into a full blown archer fight like mentioned above because they

    1. Don't have as much range
    2. Cost too much to have them in effective numbers as you can with archers
    3. Would be a waste on lightly armoured units when they are meant for taking out the big ones.

I think that basically balances them out against archers and other missile units.

I do not think you should tone down all the archers too much. The Welsh longbow with the bodkin arrow was extremely effective, at least when used by masses of archers. Could penetrate almost anything in the early/high period I believe, at least before effective plate armour was developed.

and are you making a new animation for the longbows shot? i sometimes see a weird animation in vanilla rtw so archers can fire to the sky as longbowmen did, but seems aleatory, sometimes they do this way :s

Yeah MTW MP rocked! The skirmishing and lining up b4 battles made the battles feel epic!

WOW, wish you guys could release the MP portion first (since its done) sine it would greatly promote MP play instead of Campaign, would act as a v1.0 of sorts for unit stats, and would make us even more exited for the campaign mode.

I say you guys release the MP portion!

We did last time and there wasn't much interest, so we figure you need a single player game to attract MP players.

yes, but this time im sure you guys got the whole package. No offence but the first release was goood but it lacked uniqueness amongst the factions. Im sure you guys have addressed that.

I would personally set up ranked ladders for the mp portion of chiv

Yeah, it might've lacked a bit, but I think that it still should've been played more widely if that was the kind of release the community wanted. Regradless of that, I think it'd take away the punch that a full release would.

yeah, alot of the fun from mods comes in the uniqueness made by the feel of the units.

I have read in a book about the battle of Crecy 1346 (Crecy 1346 by David Nicolle, Osprey) that crossbows had the same range as longbows. The advantage of the longbow was that it could fire more arrows in the same time as the crossbow did.
