    Default Reinforcement battle

Okay it seems that everytime I get crashing, it has to do with having a battle setup to be a reinforcement battle. For example, just now I was besieging a greek city with three of my armies, they had a full army in the city, and one outside of the city. Now, no matter what I did while I was sieging the city it would crash on me. If I tried to load the save, if I tried to play the battle etc etc. I just moved all my armies away from the city, created a new save and am now moving on. But, I still have a greek city to conquer, that is an unavoidable reinforcement battle.

So, are reinforcement battles just completely broken in this mod? Like you can't do them at all? Even if it's enemy reinforcements? Because that's just not possible to avoid, and basically completely breaks the mod.

And yeah, I saw the stickied thread above, but it hasn't been posted in, in many many months.

And I should mention that I'm in a Roman campaign that is 200+ turns in.... A little frustrated that I can't continue my Mediterranean domination...

It is all fine that you opened a new thread, the more frequent bugs coming from reinforcements have been solved in all mods, therefore this should be a specific problem.

To help you better, please first answer these questions:
    - When does it crash?
    - Does it crash if you don't play the battle manually?
    - How much memory do you have on your system?

    1. Year is 218 BCE, either spring summer or fall.

    2. I haven't tried to auto-resolve the battle yet... kinda hesitant to do that because I know I will lose the dice roll.

    3. I have 3GB of RAM.

I should mention that I have this installed for Alex.exe, and I'm using the Alex.exe version of jirisys's submod, but I don't think this is being caused by that because I'm only getting consistent crashing when reinforcements are involved it seems, or maybe it's just because it was going to be a huge battle? 5 full stacks for both armies, unit sizes on huge.

5 stacks is huge for the Rome engine, but it should normally work.

    Thanks for your answers:
    1. I was unclear, at which point does it crash? Inside battle, while returning to campaign map at the moment reinforcements enter the battlefield.
    2. use auto_win attacker/defender in the console

As I said in the other thread, I am willing to help but will not load your save on my build as I do not have all those submods installed.

Okay here's how it went down... I sieged the city and ended the turn in order to build the siege equipment. Then, during the AI turn, the greek army outside the city attacked one of mine, and it brought up the battle of my 3 stacks vs. there 2. I click play the battle, and it started to load but then CTD'd. So I started the game up again, loaded my most recent save which was right before the battle and then it CTD'd. I managed to get it to load up after several tries, and now my three armies are just sitting in forts in an adjacent controlled region of mine.

I also posted my problem in the submods thread, so we'll see if the creator has anything to say regarding this issue as well as any help you may provide.

Pre-battle CTD's can be linked to FM's too, in case they have zero movement-points due to traits.

You could also try to move one of their stacks away using move_character and furthermore remove two of your stacks so the engine is not overstrained.
My first option would be to use auto_win defender to win this battle without problems.

After some more playing, I've managed to work my way around it or something. I've succesfully played a reinforcement battle with two of my stacks vs. one of theirs. So I'm assuming it's on of their generals that's causing some sort of problem with reinforcements....

Another thing I'm wondering. I can reproduce a crash during battles if I turn my settings up to anything but low settings. I think I screwed myself by choosing "huge" unit sizes, because now I'm just straining the engine and my PC beyond what it can handle with these battles of thousands of men.

I mean, that siege I was originally trying to play would have been ~15,000 men with the 5 stacks averaging 3000 men per stack.

So I think my solution for this crashing, if it indeed is engine/my PC based, is to play with low settings and to lower my resolution and possibly play in windowed mode. We'll see what happens.

Depending how much RAM your system has, I wouldn't even think about playing such a huge battle...2GB are minimum, better are 3GB if using Vista/Win7.

PS: Use auto_win attacker/defender in the console to get around repeated crashes in such cases.
