Default Need help upgrading 1.5 patch RTW

Well, I recently found out that playing RTW online is really fun! But my games took sometimes nearly an hour to fill! Thats because I noticed I have the 1.3 Patch and everyone else has 1.5, I tried looking everywhere for 1.5 and I found a couple and downloaded them and I saved them but it did nothing and my computer still says I am using 1.3.
Possible problems: I saved it in the wrong area? : I don't really know where I should be saving it.. I just save it under.. The Creative assembly/Rome Total War/ " I'm not sure if its supposed to go in any specific folder, and if so is it supposed to be a application?
Second question is: I have patch 1.6 for Barbarian invasion, but everyone else has 1.5. Not a problem right? I'm a patch up I should be able to join their games, well apparently not. It says i'm incompatible and I don't know how to downgrade this patch. If any of you know a good link that works to where I can download 1.5 for RTW or a guide on downgrading 1.6 to 1.5 for Barbarian Invasion, it would be much appreciated!
    Thanks

The BI 1.6 patch contains the RTW 1.5 patch. You get to patch both at once.

Some versions of RTW BI (the early ones) downgrade RTW from 1.5 to 1.3. If you've downloaded the 1.5 RTW patch then you need to install it - not just save it as you've stated.

Remember some versions of the game were publixched by 'Activision' and others by 'The Creative Assembly'. Early versions of RTW eill have Activision in the default install path while others have 'The Creative Assembly'.

Well, apparently I only have 1.3 for RTW and 1.6 for Barbarian invasion, which both end up being incompatible with everyone else.
@Brusilov The patch I installed is a application and the only things I can do with it are: Modify, Repair, and Delete. I already tried modifying it and it doesn't really do anything. This could be because I got a bad link, if you have a better trusted link or the link you used to get the patch and could post it here it would be much appreciated.

There is a section on RTW patches at the bottom of the first post in this thread: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=169585

I've not had to use the patches as I bought RTW and RTW BI again.

I still have my original three CD-ROM set of RTW (1.0) but I replaced it for a shiny new one - it speeds up installing on a new PC and the old ones are a bit scratched. I was forced to replace my RTW BI CD-ROM as the original exploded in a DVD Drive a while ago. The DVD drive was full of glass shards and had to be thrown away......
