Hmm... considering that all current motherboards are expected to be recalled due to this I suppose I shall postpone my system upgrade.

    Thanks for the info bro.

Indeed, I was going to get an i5-2500i soon, so I guess I'll leave that until this is sorted out; hopefully it will be sorted out by March 15th

No problem, I normally don't look around here too much as I'm not exactly an extremely techy guy, but I spotted this on the news section in google and felt the need to post it

I guess the 0/1 6gb sata ports dont suffer from the issue. So if you have the new motherboards make sure you dont use the 3gb ports.

I heard about this. AMD must be ecstatic at the moment.

errrr... a title change might be due, since the problem is in the chipset, not the chip

and here is more reliable info:

And here's an article from Tom's : http://www.tomshardware.com/news/san...a-3,12112.html They contacted ASUS, Gigabyte, and MSI about this to see what would be done.

Did you not read it? They have information that I have not read elsewhere.

I didn't see anything in the Tom's article that wasn't implied or explained in the Anand article.

Honestly, Tom's is one of the lesser quality tech sites while Anand is one of the better ones. It's the trade off for being bigger I guess. That's not to say Tom's is complete crap, it's okay depending on the article, but 99.98% of the time, I'd go with Anandtech over Tom's Hardware.

Problems are with the chipset (ie motherboard) and not the CPU. Actually, if you only use the SATA III ports, you're okay.

I only have an HDD and optical drive so it makes me wonder if I even want to mess with trying to return my motherboard atm.

it makes no sense not to return it. Just wait for more information, the OEMs are going to release soon. There is no sense in having a POSSIBLY defective product.

BTW there is no need to
    RUN FOR THE HILLS!! ARGGHHHH
said by a group of few phalangites while being smashed by some good old heitairoi

Just wait, the percentage of failure according to intel is 5-15% in a time frame of 3 years. That is a low probability. Which of course raise the concerns that they while made that terrible and amateur press release, making their stocks fall quite a bit, they are trying now to recover some of that image by raising a:

While we know that there might be a problem for you people we are doing this by the kindness of our poor heart.
We do have also to take notice that a fall from the previous estimate revenue of 1 BILLION to the now 300 MILLION, is going to make somebody angry, and that somebody will try to not tarnish anymore than what is needed of the intel image and reputation.

Tom's is still a lesser publication. Even guru3d has been more credible than them.

Too bad that ars hasnt released something about this yet
