    Default Dale, Castles and Squalor.

    Hi Guys,

Enjoying my third age campaign as Dale but I'm having a problem trying to upgrade my Castles. I have both Uldonavan and Araw but neither of their populations are increasing due to too much squalor (or not enough good stuff). I have all the upgrades for each and obviously I can't change the tax levels, so what do I do? I know that some Generals have attributes that can help increase the population but I have one of those generals in Uldonavan now and he's just keeping the population stable.

I hope there is a way to change this cause I won't be able to get the good late game units the Dale get

Where is King Bard? I literally had this issue yesterday and resolved it by having Bard first in Uldonavan and then Araw, since i wanted a fortress before another castle.
"let me introduce myself, i'm a social disease. I've come for your wealth, leave you on your knees"
"what's yours is mine, what's mine is mine too... if you shake my hand, better count your fingers!"
"and when you kill a man, you're a murderer. Kill many, and you're a conquerer. Kill them all... You're a god!!"
"professionals have standards. Be polite. Be efficient. And have a plan to kill everyone you meet."

Having looked through my generals, they nearly all have attributes that increase squalor. Only a couple that don't, I've cheated slightly as you can pass some retinues from one general to another. So I've passed the positive farming and negative squalor retinues to the generals without increasing squalor attributes. It works, but I'm only getting about 0.5% increase in each. Weirdly nearly all retinues pass except for elf friend, which also helps with farming.

Passing retinues from one General to another is not a cheat, its a function of the game As you've notice with the Elf friend, only some can be pasted bewteen generals.

Well it kind of feels like cheating to me lol.

I know it would make things even easier, but if the retinue also stayed with the previous character then at least it would feel as if he had taught the new character. If it was the case, maybe a restriction on how many a turn would work.

Retinues are generally physical items like rings or people (elf friend is literally a friend who is an elf). So it makes sense that you could pass them to other people.

" A retinue is a body of persons "retained" in the service of a noble or royal personage "

Passing them around, is nothing more than canceling a serivce & passing it over to someone else Are you wanting the benefits to stay with the first general, after passing the retinue over to a new one.... if so that would feel like cheating to me

Traits and ancillaries that improve farming output don't affect population growth. All they do is increase income generated by farming.
