Frey is it for now. The minor factions will be represented in the heraldry of their overlords.

The Freys are the only semi-autonomous House in the series, if I recall correctly.

You could call hightower and the arbor semi independent given their importance and power

Same goes for the Florents who are quite willfully following their own agenda also against their overlords' wishes.

True but they arent really self sustaining

The Florents are one of the more powerful bannermen in Westeros, and they even used to be the kings of the Reach, thus allegedly having a claim to Highgarden. I honestly find them far more 'self sustaining' than the Freys, and Martin considered them significant enough to give them a family tree in the books.

Anyhow, I'd love to utterly lay waste to House Tyrell as them and reclaim the Reach. The foxes will rise again!

One of the important things to consider about the Freys is their strategic position between North and South. Then of course there are all of the shenanigans they get upto in the books which make them big political players. Having some more of the most prominant minor factions would be nice, but there are faction limits to contend with.

Faction limits, unit limits and extremely difficult to control AI. I like the idea of having more minor houses but I think coding the AI to get realistic reactions between factions would be a nightmare. Either way it's not something that will make it into v1.0. We really need to focus on the existing factions.

So will the freys be vassals to the tullys in the beggining?

I vote no. i think it would be better if they had more freedom to do what they want in the beginning. especially since they have to build up their faction from a very low standing.

I think that it would be great if vassalage and such things could be scripted into the game and governed by scripts and events rather than the broken Diplomacy system. I do realize that it would involve alot of extra work for the team and thus I fully understand reluctance for it, and at the very least at this point in the mod's development.

But as I see it the Freys are destined to be crushed by the northmen coming down south, or by the Tullys who sits right next to them.

Or, if the lannisters, tullies and starks are too distracted the freys might grab some settlements and become a powerhouse.

I'm afraid its not very likly. The Northmen have to go south in order to fight with, well anyone, and the Freys stands right in their path. In my experience the AI is pretty happily with eating up small factions that just happen to lie around.

But I do hope it turns out that you are right on this one.

Ofc it`s more likely that they will be swallowed up by another great power. But don`t underestimate them is what i wanted to say.

I know the Boltons and the Dreadfort in the books start as allied to the Starks as banner-men but in your Alpha version the Dreadfort starts out as a rebel faction. Why not start them out as a playable faction and give the north more action.

Starting the Bolton's as a playable faction doesn't make sense in terms of the books. They will start as a Stark settlement in 1.0. There won't be any rebel provinces to start the campaign.

It makes no sense that the Boltons would be independent since they are not at all showed as being strong enough to stand up against the Starks outside of ruthless oppertunism when the Starks arn't looking.

I understand that the Boltons dont make sense but just having something else going on up north would be nice
