Medieval 2 Total War has encountered an unexpected error and will now exit.
Hey guys I have an annoying gameplay error that only pops up when I enter real-time battles.
Here's the scenario:
I was tempted to add modded units so I can play with them in Grand Campaign, so I started unpacking but it kept failing at about 70% so I gave up. I deleted the 2 descr_geography files as told, and now whenever I enter real-time battles during campaign, quick match or custom it keeps crashing just as it loads up, I can see all the units but the ground is all black. I got rid of all the unpacked files and reinstalled the game twice already, but I keep getting the same error.
Any help you guys can give me would be much appreciated
PS: Everything else works 100%

Could you play battles before trying to unpack?
Post your dxdiag.

I get a very similar problem. When using the mod pro deo et rege v1.0a everything works fine until I start a battle. Every time i try for some reason it works for about 5 mins - sometimes longer - but then the game closes with the error med 2 total war "has encountered an unspecified error and will now exit". It has only just started doing this and I have been playing normally with this mod for over 2 months.
My system is running windows 7 on an AMD Phenom x4 2.60GHz processor and 4 GB of DDR2 RAM with 1GB of nVidea 9500Gt graphics.
I have looked for those files specified by the unpacking technique that fixed some peoples errors, but found no such files in either the games nor the mods folders
Hope someone can help!

Time frame like that, check temps and voltages. Overheating can do it and this game cause it. It's been proven too many times.

After unpacking, did you delete the two geography files mentioned in the readme?

Re: Medieval 2 Total War has encountered an unexpected error and will now exit.
Have turned your monitor resolution down to 1034 x 768 and set all graphics options ingame sas low as possible including off?
Have you checked the temps and voltages on your computer? That can be heat and/or voltage related.
