First Game and here is my Empire

First EU III game and I have all expansions except DW. I didn't bother with the tutorial and here I am:

France has beaten me twice in war and I could not finish the Reconquista because they keep interfering. Portugal and I have been besties since 1450 and it is 1574 now.

Are you Spain, you should attack France to avenge your defeats if you are.

I would attack France, but they soundly beat me when they were in three front war. After that one they trounced me when I just got a few colonies because they seem to have unlimited manpower and I also use quality. I was waiting to become a colonial god before attacking.

That is probably a good idea, looks like the tools that I use to defeat france typically are gone for you. Austria might blob up a bit and you could use them as an ally.

Typically I either defeat france early game or do what you are doing and become ridiculously powerful before I make an attempt on them much later.

The path to defeating "Le Blob" is an act of mastering the art of attrition. Scorched Earth is a wonderful tool, and it's the best way to defeat someone with superior numbers than you, especially when the AI is incredibly poor at managing attrition (that got better in HTTT, but it still will max out their WE incredibly fast).

I strongly suggest trying to aim to Claim Throne / Fabricate Claims on either Aragon or Portugal, or both.

Fabricating claims always takes forever with me haha. Unless you have a national idea based around Spies.

I don't think I can touch Aragon as they are in Portugal's sphere. I won't risk a war with Portugal when we have such close ties.

You can attack a nation in Italy and get a foothold in Italy. Then you can try to conquer whole of Italy.

Your economy will improve much too if you have the cities (cot's) in Italy.

Naples, they're big enough to be a sufficient foothold and large enough to be a huge pain in the ass later on.

You should try to annex Aragon is you can, imo, since Portugal no longer exsists

I ended my Spanish game. Got too big for my liking and I never had the balls to attack France. The empire really couldn't offset the disadvantage because I had to garrison the empire and patrol the waterways, which sapped my military to still less than that of France. At the end, we both had 1.7 and 1.6 million men. I had x6 more ART though.
