Candidate: cowen70
Patron: imb39
Patron paragraph:
Cowen70 caught my eye almost from his first post, as time has moved on my initial impressions have not only been confirmed but also taken further. He posts really intelligently and respectfully. The manners he demonstrates send many Civitates to shame, quite frankly, as demonstrated
here . He also shows an awareness of the greater forum as demonstrated
here. Cowen70 also answers intelligently and, when he feels necessary, he uses sources to back up his ideas, as demonstrated
here.
Cowen70 does occasionally post short replies but he is also capable of backing up his points as demonstrated here. He is involved heavily in the Thema Devia – both the Ethos and Mores and Political Mudpit subforums.
So far, I have been lucky. My only other client, King Henry V has not let me down; I am even more confident about cowen70.
I have also talked to Siblez about cowen70 and he has also expressed his support – so too has The Bavarian Noble and Squeakus Maximus (by virtue of offering Civitateship already). By any stretch of the imagination, cowen70 deserves to be recognised. He is a strong candidate and acting as a Civitate already.
Candidate's paragraph:
A Civitate is picked because he can argue in an objective and intelligent manner. By inviting and accepting these people it guaruntees and maintains a certain standard on the forums. From my own personal experience in Themia Devia I can recognise how having a moderator is not enough, having a core group of members who understand how to respect even those people who have completely opposite opinions to them, generates lively interesting and challenging topics. They are there not just to maintain the debate but to uphold the ToS and report it wherever it is violated. They are a defence of the integrity of the forum and its decorum.
The idea of a Civitate group on an internet forum is an intriguing idea, given that the internet is an unruly and sometimes uncivilised place. The fact that such a group would form is logical and to paraphrase newton: Intellectual life doesn't take place in a vacuum; intellectuals all stand on each other's shoulders. People being human and fallible, they are picky both of whom them allow to stand on their own shoulders, and of whose shoulders they stand upon.
To be invited or accepted to such a group is a privelege and an honour.
