Men of Sparte, I have finished despairing. Now, we must all steel ourselves for the task at hand. Forget the past! What is done is done, we cannot do anything about it. We must only concern ourselves with one thing: The long road back to military recovery. Fortunately, the new barracks in Sparte is almost comleted. Once it is finished, we must IMMEDIATELY begin to train as many of our citzens for battle as we possibly can. The faster we bring ourselves back up to strength, the better. It is worthy to note that it was the Army of Sparte, and not the Army of Athenai, that was annihlated in the Battle of Demetrias. The Athenai will certainly attempt to exploit their relative strength compared to us to sieze power in the Koinoin. Indeed, they have already begun! Already the foul, murderous Jirisys has raised a proposal to ban Sparte from electing candidates to Hegemon. These weak fools think they can take our freedom from us? But men of Sparte, worry not. I have already furthered a motion to have the scum Jirisys executed by the brazen bull for treason and crimes against the Koinoin. I must make a point here: it is not just Sparte that is weak. The entire Koinoin is shattered. Acting alone, each of our "armies", if they even deserve such a title, is nothing. We could never put up any sort of resistance alone-neither of us could. We must, for the next four seasons, place the Army of Sparte and the Army of Athenai under one command, one army. The Hegemon should be placed in command of this army. After the next four seasons have passed, Sparte and Athenai will have recovered to an extent that each of our armies is an effective fighting force on its own, and the armies may be split again. I also believe that Areus should abdicate the throne. It is a shame for a man who calls himself king to remain on the throne after such an embarassing defeat. Men of Sparte: TO VICTORY!
*thunderous applause and tears of despair*
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
The law already predicts a united force from both cities, and that is the Alliance Army commanded by the Strategos (Areus). The Hegemon position is administrative one.
Spartan orders (so far):
-Retrain the Army in Sparta.
-Merge the Spartan Army with the Alliance Army.
There is still time for changes and additions to be made.
What I meant is that the Strategos would have conrol over both the armies, including the Army of Atherai. As in for they would not have any control over it for one cycle. This is justified by our current military weakness.
I believe, Nikolas, that it would be unwise to make a further attempt on Demetrias. As we have so painfully and disasterously learned, especially yourself, the Makedonians have an uncanny ability to have armies materialize out of thin air, and we cannot risk another siege agian if we lack even the most rudimentary reconaisance installations such as spies. However, meeting them in the field, where there is no hope of reinforcement, is definantly an option. But this is not an option for this cycle. Perhaps next, when we possess the strength to carry out such a stunt. Men of Sparte: TO VICTORY!
*thunderous applause*
The Athenian Army is currently composed of 16 hoplites and 19 skirmishers, hardly a worthy reinforcement. It is the Strategos's right to reinforce the Alliance Army with the armies from the poleis, but in this case it's not worth the annoyance forcing the Athenians to give up the little forces they have.
This session is now over, an update will be made soon.
Hahaha, I AGREE with that motion.
^I am reposting this because it posted last session too late to be voted on, but is still highly relevant to the current situation of the Koinoin.
^This was posted by Jirisys on the .Org. All the proposals were agreed upon, so we should definently take this into account as we make new proposals. I also suggest that we treat Athenai more nicely, as we are allies, after all.I PROPOSE we allow the spartan army to traverse our lands. Yes, the SPARTAN army.
I PROPOSE we do not ask for spartan help until they become more kind to us.
I PROPOSE we give them and unit standing either in Rhodoi or Chalkis, to the ally army, to show our support and willingness to cooperate.
I PROPOSE we give a formal forgivness to Areus, yet still not allow him to run as a Strategos.
I PROPOSE we give a provisional seat to one of the spartan councilors and one of the korinthian councilors.
I PROPOSE we give a formal apology to Sparte for our usurpation and ask for theirs too.
I would also like to ask how one confirms that they are joining a party. Do you have to say it in a post?
P.S. Join the SNP: the only existing Spartan party as of now!
If you join through a post I would like to join I am on TWC often and could take place in many votes and propose many ideas which could keep the party in power if any one else forms a party to rival yours.
I know that i am new to this forum and have a low post count but i think that i could help a lot to add to Sparta glory and your party's.
If I may, I would like to comment on what Populus has discovered. I realize that many of these points would definitely be in our best interest to accept, and would be willing to withdraw my proposal to let Athens go, but a few points are a little shaky. Probably the biggest elephant in the room would be electing an Athenian Strategos. I realize that we may not have a choice, however, their lack of military action should be seriously considered, and the fact that their conquest of Chalkis was a bloodbath. They may get a lot of our guys killed, and plummet us even further into debt. Having to replace tons of troops gets expensive, as you all know. I think we should somehow secure Sparta's ability to wage war. Or, if I'm misunderstanding, where would this leave Sparta in it's ability to wage war?
In addition, the be more nice to us part. Were they not the ones who executed poor Populus first? R.I.P My fine, feathered friend! Plus, would they really refuse to ask for our help for lack of kindness (gameplay, not personal respect, we all deserve that)? Would they really be willing to endanger their branch of the alliance, in an instance such as now, because we took the last slice of cake?
If they do formally propose this to us, I suggest we try to diplomatically change those few things, or at least alter them so they wouldn't totally take us out of the game. Not literally, of course, just our ability to prevent them from leaving Sparta severely weakened!
P.S. Sorry if I'm posting too much, I'm just havin' a lot of fun with this!

Moderate Party of Sparta
I DISAGREE that Areus must step down. A foolish priest I may be, but even a fool has his wise moments. It is unfortunate that the council did not take my advice, in taking a more cautious approach. While Areus is to blame, he acted on our council, not unilitarerally as a king.
I AGREE that all effort must go into retraining our military forces. Not for Sparta or for the Alliance, but for those we left in the field. Poor Nikolas.
I DISAGREE that the army of Athens and the army of Sparte must be merged. Instead we should merge any depleted units and transfer all available units to the Alliance Army. The rest should be reserved for garrison duty, split between Corinth and Athens. The isthmus should be fortified by the Alliance army and from there we may avoid false accusations of stealing Athenian crops.
I PROPOSE that the council considers lowering taxes at the end of this year, so as to lessen the burden on families while the menfolk are trained as hoplites and on campaign.
Blood-drenched, cloak tattered, shield dented, and spear still in hand Nikolas burst into the Council room "There is no point," he roared "to carry a man home on his shield while he can walk!" Shocked stares came from all corners, and Nikolas, fury and sadness on his face continued
"Aye, I see you are shocked to see me alive, well I tell you this, I may have fled, but I did so fighting every step of the way. Many men died before me this day, many I knew well. They did not deserve to die, for you see, we were tricked. By our boldness and the decision to move our diplomat we were unaware that the Macedonian force to the North beseiging a free town was beaten back, and therefore free to move south. But where was the diplomat who should have seen this? Far off, though how could the Athenians have known it would go badly for Macedon?"
He stopped to catch breath and then continued "We cannot fight alone! Athens seeks glory and honour through politics, yet while our two ways, Sparta's of honour and victory, and Athens' of pride and glory, we shall never win while we fight each other! Certainly, we of Sparta suffered a defeat, but a defeat which struck a mortal blow to the Macedonians on the way out. If we were to send the units which have suffered casualties to retrain and return again to the north, then we shall know victory this time, and it will avenge the blood spilled before Demitaris that day."
He paused for breath, and leaned on his spear, shaking his head to clear a fog that had started to dull his mind "But we of Sparta cannot do our duty with our hands tied by Athens, convince them to let us free, and allow us to do what we do well, while they do what they do well and we shall know victory! Athens will bring us wealth, and alliances with other nations, while Sparta will bring hard warriors, and victory in the field; so long as we get past the manourvering of Jirisys for his own purposes- who I suspect was planning to overthrow the Poleomarchus- and word together as one -for it is hard to fight with your hands tied by rules- then WE SHALL KNOW VICTORY!" And with that mighty roar and a sigh he collapsed, causing men to leap to their feet and call for a physician.
SUMMARY:
Proposal 1: Convince Athens to let us off the leash.
Proposal 2: Retrain all the units we can.
Proposal 3: When the barracks are done recruit all the heavy hoplites we can.
Proposal 4: Once the Alliance Army is back up to strength send them back north to meet Macedon in the field.
I Agree...: That we should execute the traitor Jirisys.
Co-Leader of BRITANNIAE: INVASIO SAXONUM
Disagree with proposal 1, our army was just beaten and despite reinforcements they still have more men. We need a stronger defensive position first!
Agree with proposal 2.
Agree with proposal 3.
Disagree with proporsal 4, see my first point.
I agree with the removal of Jirisys
I Propose that all available forces are merged into one and this army take up a defensive position, fortifying itself to repel any macedonian attack until such time that we can field enough men to defeat them.
I propose that the author of this excellent AAR have himself the best beer available to him.
Yeah, I got nothing else at the moment.

-Improve recruitment in Athenai (Not yet).
-Improve the economy of Rhodes (Not yet).
-Economic analysis of the cities and the Koinon to be made (Yes).

Spartan orders:
-Retrain the Army in Sparta (Yes).
-Merge the Alliance Army with the Spartan Army (Yes).
268 BC
As per orders of the poleis, Chremonides built a fort to the north of Athens to block any Macedonian armies, while Areus left Attika, returning to Sparta to retrain the army.
Reinforcements were recruited in both Sparte and Athens.
In Sparte, the troops were heavily reinforced, in an attempt to bring back the Alliance Army to full strength.
Akrotatos, currently governor of Korinthos, participated in the Olympic games, but failed to win anything.
In that city, as well as in Chalkis, the new hellenic governments were fully instituted.
The Koinon Hellenon was now composed of 5 independent poleis.
Its treasury wasn't doing so well, especially since the retraining of the Alliance Army.
Many mercenaries were available for hire, but the Alliance couldn't afford any of them. The Alliance currently owes money, having nothing in its coffers.
The Athenian fort was eventually besieged by the Makedonians.
In Athens, reinforcements kept being levied to help with a possible confrontation.
When the Makedonians attacked, the 20 Athenian skirmishers stood no chance.
Reinforcements were quickly levied once again, but...
...the Macedonians didn't take long to reach Athens after the fort fell. Athenai was besieged.
And Athenai was alone for now, as any army led by Areus was forbidden of entering Attike. He could easily ignore this order - it was an Athenian order and not a Koinon one - but with the current relations between the two cities, he much rather not help the Athenians. Either way, he was about to lose command of the Alliance Army. 4 years had passed, and it was time for the Koinon Elections, which would happen in this year, 268 BC, despite the siege of Athens.
KOINON ELECTIONS
Possible candidates for both cities:
I recommend waiting for the elections to be over before proposing any polis motions, as the situation is likely to change after the offices are decided.
Offices to be voted for:
-Strategos Autokrator
-Hegemon
Spartan possible candidates:
-Akrotatos Agiados Lakedaimonios
-Areus Agiados Lakedaimonios
-Eudamidas Eurypontidos Lakedaimonios
Men of Sparte, today our worst possible nightmares have been confirmed. The Makedonians have breached our defensive perimeter and have besieged Athenai, and outnumber them considerably to boot. We are deep in debt from our desperate military spending, but still we are nowhere near recovery. In order to survive the coming storm, the Koinoin Hellenon must take severe action. We must not let Athenai exploit the current situation to their benefit, as they have been so willing to threaten. Spartans, this is the time for offensive action--this is the time for redemption.
Spartans, I NOMINATE Akrotatos Agiados Lakedaimonos for Hegemon. With our crushing debt and Athenai attempting to make us their slaves, now more than ever Sparte needs a tough legislative leader. We have an economic crisis to handle, and many unjust Athenai laws to repeal. We need a Sparte Hegemon.
Spartans, I have no suitable nominees for Strategos. Sadly, although it is in times like these that we most need a strong military leader, our only suitable candidate, King Areus Agiados Lakedaimonos, is no longer eligible, not to mention it would be an outrage for him to nominated.
Spartans, I PROPOSE that we repeal the Attike Act. This act makes no sense, and cripples the offensive capabilities of the Koinoin as a whole. On top of that, Athenai is being besieged, and there is nothing the Army of the Koinoin can do to help them because the Attike Act forbids them to. Spartans, I say that we should refuse to give any assistance to Athenai whatsoever in this siege and leave them to their fates unless the Attike Act is repealed. The ungrateful and idiotic Athenai will have no choice but to repeal the law, or die at the swords of the Makedonians.
Men of Sparte: TO VICTORY!
*thuderous applause*
Men of Sparte, have just realized a terrible fact, that may explain our defeats of late well. The Army of the Koinoin and the Army of Sparte only have one unit of Hoplitai Haploi! And those are hardly even soldiers, but mere untrained levies. To put that differently, the proud Army of the Koinoin has but one melee unit! So I ask you this: when will the barracks be completed? We need real Hoplitai, who are professional soldiers, and we need lots of them, and we need them now! Does this barracks allow for the recruitment of Hoplitai? Or even of Hoplitai Haploi? Men of Sparte: TO VICTORY!
*thunedrous applause*
(Another question: I just looked at the Athenai Council, and they have their own political parties as well as party leaders [none of which exist yet], but there are no such things here in the Sparte Council. Why? I want to be leader of the Sparte Nationalist Party!)
(And another question: why is Rhodos so infatuated with Athenai? They are even more loyal to them than Chalkis, whom Athenai liberated. To top it off, Rhodos is one of the founding members of the Koinoin Hellenon, and should not be particularly favorable to Athenai or Sparte, but strictly neutral.)
Spartan Council - Offices and Parties
Ephoroi: The Ephoroi are the Spartan councilors who oversee the actions of the Kings. They are the post powerful men in the Spartan Council. Every Party Leader is an Ephor.
Party Leaders: This is the leader of a given party in the poleis. This position will be voted for between the members of each party.
The Moderate Party is the standard party. All those who don’t belong to other parties belong to it. Until new parties are created, everyone is a Moderate.
You can form a new party by posting in the thread! The party must have at least 2 members in order to be accepted, so at least 1 more member will have to join you.
Parties may be created now. The founder of the party will be its Party Leader for the first 4 years.
