    Default Question regarding economics...

    Hello all
    .
I just came back to RTW after playing all the games in the serie. So I pick up thit mod and started a campaign with Carthage. To start, I got this huge 12k deficit, so I disbanded half of my troops just to break even and a little extra...I've build paved roads and markets in all my cities but I can't reach better than 3K/turn, I won't go far with that...How do you get to make money in that game: markets, roads, ports, trade ? I mean what should i do first to get a decent income ?

    thanks in advance

    Hiya!

Ports are initially the most important thing. That and disbanding any cavalry you don't need (but keep some for the maneuvers below). They're very expensive. Then build up your trade with everyone you can. You're Carthage, so you start in an excellent defensive position. I would open the game by keeping one defensive army in Spain, maybe capturing a region or two if it helps your position, and focus your offensive efforts entirely on Sicily. That island is a mint once you've got it locked down, but only control of the whole thing will support the army you'll need there to keep it.

Please note that we heavily nerfed trade in 3.5, so you now won't make ridiculous sums of money from one port. Ports are still the best way to make money, though.

    Thanks a lot pal !

I've kind of figured it out, I focused on eliminating Numidia first, they backstabbed me, after that I conquered the whole of Sicily and I'm at war with the romans, will finish them before going for Spain, don't have much choice though...

    thx again for the tips

It's also worth saying that you should limit who you're at war against to only one or two factions at a time, since you don't trade with factions you're at war with.

I like to send an army far away and capture/destroy nations for good $$.
Choosing future enemies to disable is pretty handy.
