Temporary solution is in the post #30.
EDIT: By deleting globallighting of SS 6.3, u go back to vanilla night lighting. That way the problem is solved.

Newt, is that cheating? In RL night battles didn't happen much, in the game they are quite common, and (for some players at least) they make it less fun. Compare it to fighting battles in wooded terrain, where you can't see anything either - players at least can avoid those battles, avoiding night battles is a lot harder since the AI doesn't mind fighting at night (if the general has the right trait).
Plus, the only time human players deliberately fight a night battle is when there is an AI army nearby led by a captain or a general without the night fighter trait, to fight armies one at a time. Also unrealistic, and a bit of an exploit if you ask me.
I don't know. It's your game, do what you want. I only turn up gamma if my room is really bright and I really can't see. You can always hit the faction symbol to highlight units.
Biggest exploit of all = Any battle human vs AI. Play an all ai hotseat game if you want it to be 100% fair, or always use auto resolve
auto resolving isn't exactly fair for the player, especially since AI general get a buff in terms of command stars (I'm pretty sure of it, since I'm stolen a number of 6 star generals only for them to degrade to 3 or so the next turn

I just remembered seeing something. Open data\world\maps\campaign\imperial_campaign\descr_strat.txt, and find this:
put a ; in front of the night battles part, then start a new game (if you run setup after, this will get changed back)marian_reforms_disabled
rebelling_characters_active
gladiator_uprising_disabled
night_battles_enabled
show_date_as_turns
brigand_spawn_value 500
pirate_spawn_value 500
I would have to play a vanilla game to see if there is much of a difference but some of the complaints here seem to be that night battles are much darker than in vanilla. Perhaps there is a way for those who wish to, to adjust it so they are more early evening battles instead?
Personally I find the really dark battles kinda fun sometimes. The mystery of what units are where where adds a level of challenge.
