English Family - No Last Names

Basically, the topic explains the problem I am having. I did a clean install of everything, but in my Early era campaign my English family members have no royal/last name. And when they have children, they also only have their first name.

I don't understand since the "descr_strat" file shows that they do have last names (Beauclerc).

This is only a problem from my English faction.

That is odd. Beauclerc is listed in the names list for england. Try going into SS6.3\data\text and deleting names.txt.strings.bin and load up the game.

I tried deleting the "names.txt.strings.bin" file, but it didn't work. I've spent an hour or two trying to edit some text files, but nothing really yielded positive results (I made backups of the text files, of course).

It's strange. I had this problem in 6.3 too, but I was able to fix it somehow. Luckily, my English faction has their last names in Late Era, but I've always been an Early Era player.

Didn't the Magna Carta officially give all Britons a surname, so they were easier to locate and tax? The early era begins before the Magna Carta existed.

Although, nobility surely were distinguished by their last names, specifically their house. Maybe I am terribly misremembering what I learned in my Medieval Europe history class.

They do have last names, until they get a title. (Duke or King)
