    Hi,

Question about Generals and their effects on troops in battles where you might have more than one stack of your own participating (and more than one General as well).

When do the effects of the 2nd general take effect? Does he have to be physically on the field of battle in the form of a reinforcement unit?

For instance, if you have Napoleon + a support stack led by Murat or Ney fighting in the same battle... Does all of Napoleon's cavalry automatically get Ney or Murat's cavalry bonuses at the battle's start, or does Ney or Murat have to enter the field? What about if cavalry units from Ney or Murat's army enter the field as reinforcements prior to their General's arrival... do they come to the battle with bonuses?

Do Generals' traits stack together if they are in the same army, or does it only apply the trait & bonuses from the "main" or higher ranking General?

I ask because I usually operate in a 3-stack Armee with Napoleon, one of which is usually Murat with a cavalry corps. Since you have the choice of which stack to attack with, and which of the other two will arrive first as reinforcements, knowing a little more about the bonuses received will help me make a better decision as to what order to send the men into the breeches.

I believe the General's must physically be on the field, and that for additional generals their morale effect is somewhat reduced, but still present. If you have a second General's staff you will notice that units around it will have "Inspired by nearby unit" but not "Encourged (General nearby)." I'm confident in my conclusion that is reserved for the commanding officer only.

I believe that the arriving generals traits do not factor into it. In example, if Micehl Ney arrives on the field, the standard inspiring area is now in effect, but his traits do not factor in, for all intents and purposes he is a (to use RTW terminology) a light cavalry unit with the "imperial_eagle" trait -- that is to say, my dear man, he has a morale boosting aura. That is my take on the matter at least, do hope I helped.

Thank you my good sir, your take on things makes sense. If all of these effects stacked its could be too easy to manipulate into your troops having unbalancing traits. I've noticed the morale influences of the 2nd general, but you also do not see the inspire & rally buttons... so indeed, a morale boosting cav unit only.

    Thanks for your input!
