Preferences folder and .txt missing

The moment I installed RTW on my new laptop I noticed the preferences.txt file missing. I tried copying the file from my PC but the game ignored it: the green triangles are still there and the camera rotates if I press <- and -> instead of travelling.

I reinstalled RTW and installed EB on top. EB has a whole folder called Preferences. It's not there.

My laptop has Windows 7 Premium installed. I installed RTW in the Program Files folder the first time and in Users/MyName the second time. Both times the same result.

Has anyone seen this before?

Edit: Ok, scratch that. EB works fine. It's the Vanilla that didn't have preferences.txt.

While using Vista it can happen that some files aren't written to the EB folder due to missing rights, starting EB with adminrights solves this.
However, I strongly advise to not install RTW+EB in Program Files on Vista/Win7.

I know, I read the installation guide. Like I said, problem solved, EB runs perfectly.
