    Default Campaign Tactics

I've been looking ove the forums for some advice on campaign tactics. By this I mean, where shall I invade first? Gaul? Carthage? Greece?

It would be very helpful if someone could give me some tips as I have just about stabilised the Italian peninsular and am looking to start expanding soon.

Avoid arousing the Germans. They will maul you.

    Focus on Carthage and Gaul.
Gaul will pester you badly until you knock them back on their heals, and without dominating Carthage, you'll never dominate the world. Gades, Valencia and Carthago Nova all have mines, which should be regarding with the highest priority.

The Greeks are wealthy, yes, but they also have powerful infantry in the Spartans. Save them for a little later, when your troops will be trained with experience points and weaponry upgrades.

(Note that these are personal philosophies, and in no way represent actual good strategy )

I'd say go for Greece. They are quite easy to defeat and once you captured the whole mainland, you can earn alot of money via trade. Just remember to have a couple of cohorts of velites per legion to defeat their heavily armoured hoplites and spartans.

Once you defeat Greece, you should go for Carthage as from there you can get the Marius Reforms. But be warned that practically all the Carthaginian towns will make you lose alot of money so have some cash in hand before the invasion. Also, you will need adequate reserves for your Princepes and Triarii as you cannot train them on the African mainland. (Capturing Palma and Carali can ease the situation).

I'd not recommend going too far North of Italy into the Gaulish lands (past the mountains) as you will get hammered from everywhere. I stopped at Darantasia (cash cow) and filled it with my most experienced men and they easily defeated every stack that the Gauls and Germans threw at them. Most of them have golden chevrons. Falxman really pack a punch and expect to suffer heavy losses when fighting against them, so try to not provoke the Dacians.

My biggest tip, aim for towns that earn you a lot of money, like those with Gold and Silver mines. Because money = more soldiers = more legions = expand faster.

Good luck on your campaign! I'm about to push into Northern Europe, so we'll see how it goes.

I usually go for Gual and the islands at first, this is to push gual back so their cease their attacks. Then I get sicilia from there I head to Carthage. Greece is tough one, it can be easy and then again not. You can go after greece, you just can't do Carthage and Greece, one or the other. Gual will always bleed you as they attack. So its really preference, it takes me a while in my campaigns as I play with the script so Garrisons are spawned, which means you wont be blitzing.

Its all how you play. Both greece and Carthage make money.

You're leaving some of your units in Latium (Senate's Province) at the end of the turn. Don't do that. They get angry.

Also, try the campaign on M/M...it's tweaked for the best balance and gameplay at that level. I think you'll find it plenty hard.
