Pre-battle speeches?

What do you think the pre-battle speeches will be like? Since everything seems to be enhanced, I'm hoping that there'll be speech sets for the Catholic Europeans, Orthodox Europeans, Muslims, Mongols, and Aztecs.

"Give me more troops, noble leader! So that they may sheathe their swords into the beating hearts of our enemies!" (and whoever guesses which game this comes from gets a cookie)

Its safe to assume so. I used to always listen to them. Really helps RP the general.

I think speeches will be grouped into cultures.

Pagan

Aztec must likely recieve its own aswell..

Well I was thinking they might be put with Pagans, but then buildings and portriats would be messed up...

But I guess they work as Catholics as well :laughing:

I just hope they will play the pre-battle speech during setup. I quickly tired of waiting on it to finish but if the speech continues to play during setup I would be well pleased.

I'm not sure if this is a joke or not, but the Aztecs actually thought that the 'white' people were gods when they first arrived.... Not heathens. It was the other way around. The europeans would most likely say something like that. The Aztecs would probably pray and ask for strength and wisdom for the coming battle, not death and destruction of the other people.

It's a suprise the British tribes in RTW didn't get their own culture.

But yes, the game is going to primarily focus upon England and France, though it disheartened me to see 4 factions alone in Italy! (Papal states, venice, Milan, and Sicily) while others, such as Spain (Disregarding the division of the kingdoms of Castile and Aragorne) or Russia (I think?) are being given only a broad grouping.

If Faction hardcodes are far above just those, then it's not much worry..

There were factions in RTW besides the romans?

Ya, england will probably own in MTW2, but whatever, we can always fix things through modding.

I want the Pagans in M2TW to sound like Thief Pagans.

For example, when battling Catholics...

Yup, Civ II. You get the metaphorical cookie.

Remember that many of the English leaders would have grown up speaking French. English itself was mostly a language of the lower classes until the rise of towns.

Good point, to get someone with an English accent to do the speeches for the English leaders would be rather anachronistic. However, having the speecehs in modern English at all is anachronistic, so it's probably best just to have a recognisably English voice doing the English speeches, and the same for other factions. Having subtitles for all the other factions seems unnecessary, I don't want to have to concentrate on a translation with all the other factions! Commands in-game, shouted out on the battlefield, should be in the native language though. I've jsut been palying CoD2, and all the Germans shouting in German at to each other definitely adds to the feel of it. Make the troops shout insults in their native tounge, not just say 'steenking rats' alot.

I also hope they will include prebattle speches.
When I started to play RTW I found some quete usefull tips there..

Kill them all - God will know his own.

And my guess for most overpowered faction would be Scotland.
Hordes of kiltdressed twohanded sword wielding maniacs shouting curses and getting +2 valour becasue they've been recruited in a province with a church of Sct John..

We do know that you can build cathedrals, and it would be safe to assume that they'd keep the same system as RTW. It would be cool if the English could build churches to St. Sebastian (the patron saint of archers) and give all missile troops extra experience.

For speeches, it would be cool if they threw in some quotes from Blackadder I.

"As the good Lord says, "'Love thy neighbor, unless he's Turkish. In which case, kill the bastard!'"

"Damn, damn, damn! The first decent battle since I reached puberty..."
