This movie looks awesome! Can't wait to see it. Focus Features are usually responsible for good movies too.

Seems like the first episode of HBO's Rome.

Hey, that's based on a book! I'm sure I've read it, the story is ok, but about as deep as the average hollywood-flick

I remember that trailer, with the ninja-cowboy Scotsmen.

Fighting looks horrible, as usual. Probably still going to see it anyway, Roma holds a special place in my heart

It looks like it can be good, but doesn't strike me as something that could quite be "the Gladiator of this decade," you know. I'm hoping it'll be good though.

Don't like Channing Tatum one bit.

Grey Fox pointed something out I noticed too. It sounds very similar to the plot of the very first episode of Rome. Only they are going for a more thriller style to it.

Kevin Macdonald has a fairly good resume, with State of Play and The Last King of Scotland under his belt. We'll see if he can execute this well. Looks like a very sharp hit or miss.

No I heard they invented a whole tribe specifically for the film.

    Seriously?

They really couldn't use an existing Gaulic/Germanic tribe for the movie? Instead they had to invent a bunch of Mohawk Iroquois running around beyond the Roman frontier in gray war paint.

One thing said about the movie is that they are having Americans play the Romans "to achieve a little contemporary symbolism." The idea is that Americans, like the Romans, oppressed native populations. Now, I admit that America was far from right in its treatment of the Indians. They were robbed of their lands and had little protection under national law. But that was over one hundered years ago! I am tired of the US being bashed for it. And, might I point out, the Indians were originally oppressed and robbed by the English. And they did the same thing all over their Empire. Now, I don't think England should be bashed for this either. It ws a long time ago too. But the British filmakers seem keen to point out our past failures, forgetting that they did it before and at the same time as we did.

As much as I don't like people bashing a country for a stupid specific reason, I needed to comment here,

You do unerstand a great deal of Amerindians are still affected by what happened in the 1800's right? Many of those people who still live on reservations are in poverty still and alcohol and drug abuse is huge concern. All because the military forced the natives off their lands and threw them onto worthless, infertile reservations against their wills. So it isn't gone, nor should it still be forgotten.

But I guess this'll be one of the few Roman movies out there where the Romans aren't played by British. I just hope it isn't as cheesy as RTW's American Romans. *Shivers*

I know that the Indians, at least some of them, are still in trouble becouse of what we did. But what can we do? We can't give them back huge tracts of land, and most Indians live a modern lifestyle. We can't fix it. It's just going to remain one of our deep national wrongs, what we did to them. I won't go any farther, I just wanted to voice one thing I didn't like about the movie. I'm still going to watch it.

Both films are based on the novel 'The Eagle of the Ninth'. There was no actual disappearance of the Ninth. That is fiction, but the Ninth Legion was decimated in its conflict with the Caledonian tribes in Scotland.
