The purpose of this minimod is too enhance the Mongolian Faction ,with a special focus on authenticity.
Since I am doing this alone this will be a slow work and new goals are set over time.
For the moment my main two goals are :
1. A historically correct family tree . 2. A new soundtrack that needs to immerse in the mongolian world.
2. A never before seen banner used only by the mongols.

This is the best I can come up with .
Women and children cant be given unique portraits .(hardcoded)
The offspring is 99% correct. The children have the correct parents but not all offspring was included since it would cause trouble with the MED2 engine.
Havent found any portraits of Chagatai or Jochi so they remain generic.
HELP needed for:
Portraits of Chagatai and Jochi.
Decent historical ebooks or links to good books about the mongols /golden horde.

Personally I think something like this is very much warranted. The Mongols aren't represented very accurately in M2TW. Changing them to pagan and changing the roster are steps in the right direction, but it still irks me that they're still of middle-eastern culture.

Truth is Im pretty noobish when it comes to scripting and coding and all that. So I was wondering if there actually is a 'demand' for this sort of project. If there might be some decent interest in this I will continue.

There is a GOD. I for one would love the idea of having the Mongol Faction to become a proper Faction so to speak. I recently played the Mongols and just to spice it up I started by giving them back the " Tartar Heavy Lancers". I would have liked to give them units along the lines as seen in "The Three Kingdoms". Ideal would be cavalry with halberds. Infantry with halberds and pikes. Keep the militia for Town duties. Murgens with samuria swords only. The idea of when they attack a town/castle and win the whole town/castle is sacked,buildings are automaticlly cashed in etc, leaving the Mongols having to stay in the town/castle to not only build there select buildings,to keep order and replenish troops." Those as in SHOGUN TW 1,now thats a thought". Could even limit the building rate to happyness or order %. And the troop buildings to be limited to level 3 and above or Capital only. Think of the planing needed before taking any town/castle,not to say the unit movement on the campaign map. Lends itself to counter attacks, supply lines of troops etc been hit all the time. Not just a kill everybody and city jumping game.

For the moment I think I will only do aesthetical stuff since these are easy to implement. So no revamps on roster (because honestly I consider the standard SS roster to be pretty good) or special gameplaychanges... yet.
So I will leave it mostly at that ,since I ,like anybody else, have limited time. After the added beauty enhancements I will move on too gameplay stuff.
I have been busy today working on a mongol soundtrack compiled of several sources,beware though !If you dont like Tuvanian throatsinging you wont like it .
Also am working on the historically accurate family tree.
Considering the historical references to implement in events ,Im having difficulties finding good sources. Having visited several bookstores here in my hometown I was dissappointed to not find a thing about the Golden Horde or even the mongols at all!!! And no I dont live in a redneckvillage, I live in Bruges. (and dont you dare start to use that as an argument after having seen 'in Bruges' )
So if somebody could direct me towards good sources or books id be happy to compensate for the efforts. (NO FRICKING WIKIPEDIA GUYS!!! )

When a Great Khan died, the invasions of the horde came to a standstill as the generals had to go back east to elect a new Khan. I'm just wondering if that is something that could (or should) be implemented in the game.

That would be great but because the new leader is chosen immediately, I dont think it could be done that way. I bought a great secondhand book on Genghis Khan a while back. All my stuff is packed away in boxes at the moment but I'll try to fish it out and take a look.

Unfortunately that would only be possible with the starting heir. Because names are chosen at random, it'd be impossible to do because you have to know the name of the character to move them off the map for a while.

Yes indeed ,it is because of genghis his death they didnt invade vienna.
I was thinking of letting the heir disappear for a couple of years and come back as great khan if he has proven himself worthy based upon his qualities.If not, the new khan should spawn near the initial horde spawning point near Urgench.

It can't be done i'm afraid. The best you can do is mod in some traits that raises a character's authority. If the current heir doesn't have a son when the leader dies, then the character with the highest authority will become the next heir. You can tie the traits to whatever you want. So for example, if the character wins a heroic victory, they get authority which improves their chance of being the Khan.

Sounds good ,but maybe the faction heir crown mod could also give some solution.
Another idea, could it be possible of using the crusade/jihad option and change it into a help call for spawning stacks at the border?Offcourse you would need to fulfill conditions ,enough money /authority and enough passed time since last call for help.

The faction heir mod would help, but the advantage of using the trait system is that it simulates the meritocracy better. You can have the general who conquers the most become the next heir rather than just who the player decides
Crusades and jihads are hardcoded in the game. You can only have crusades and jihads and no other types (the warpath in the americas campaign is just a renamed jihad).
