    Default Problem installing live messenger

    Hey people,

I have tried to install live messenger for windows XP several times but can't get it to work. During the install I get the same error dozens of times, this one:

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

It basically says "There is no disc present in the station, please insert appropriate medium in station"

But if I click "continue" the installer will finish the install eventually after which I get this somewhat ironic message:

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

Here, it says messenger couldn't be installed because of problems installing a required component "Microsoft Application Error Reporting"

And then follows with "Try to install again, blabla, Unknown error: 0x80070015

So.. it doesn't specify which station or disc is required.. I tried installing it again with my original XP disc inserted but that didn't do anything..

Does anybody know what's going on here?? There's guaranteed rep to be dealt to the person who helps me fix this

The other question would be is it a legal copy?

If so, the next question would be, who would pirate Windows XP?

Some tips and possible solutions to solve WLM installation:
    • Download the latest WLM version availible at Get.Live.com
    • Update Windows XP or Vista through Windows Update
    • Go to "C:\Program Files\Windows Live" and remove "Messenger" folder (note: replace "C" with your root drive letter)
    • Go to "CrogramData" (note: replace "C" with your root drive letter) and delete both Windows Live Installer and WLInstaller if you have any
    • Restart PC
    • Run the installer

If you are still unable to get Messenger work, i recommend you to Download CCleaner registry cleaner to fix your errors.

Yes, my Windows is a legal, paid for copy and I always install updates automatically, so it's up to date aswell. I downloaded the latest installer yesterday, so that's not the problem.

I allready have Ccleaner, I will try those things you posted Ishan, thanks for the tips! I hope it works!

    Edit:

I did everything you posted Ishan, except: Go to "C:\ProgramData" (note: replace "C" with your root drive letter) and delete both Windows Live Installer and WLInstaller if you have any
I don't have a ProgramData folder on my root drive.

It didn't work I got the same error messages again.

Uninstall KB981669 (windows hotfix) as it causes the problems.

    If not that then:-
    • Ensure you have Administrator priviledges on the PC. Real administrator.
    • Download the latest version here: http://download.live.com/(You have that already)
    • Disable DEP.
      Spoiler for Disable DEP
      Under Windows XP:
      1. Go to Control panel > System > Advanced settings tab > Startup and Recovery.
      2. Click Settings button, click Edit button.
      3. In the Notepad windows search for "/NoExecute" parameter without quotes and change it to "/NoExecute=AlwaysOff" w/o quotes.
      4. Save file and reboot your PC.

    • Temporarily disable your Windows Firewall. If you have any third-party firewall ensure WLM is not blocked by it (set it to Allow/Game mode temporarily).
    • Download and install Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility. Perform the cleanup of any WLM versions installed previously.
    • Reboot.
    • Run WLM installation again.

    Good Luck!
