    Default 6.4: How to get rid of the unparalleled (siege) battle lag?

    Hello dear people,

    I've been looking in the forums for the answers to this question, but I found them to be inconclusive and indefinitive. I think the question has also repeatedly been incomplete. That's why I've made this new topic.

    Now let me ask you the great question:

    What must I do to make the (siege) battles in SS6.4 (no submods for all you guys wondering) run like those in 6.2, while keeping it the same graphical quality?

    NOTE: My pc is very very decent indeed, it shouldn't need any upgrading

    You wait for the patch, the SS team is working on it and performance will increase now so be a bit patient i have to test some stuff etc before it's released.

    there is a file lurking somewhere in the download section that reduces the bump mapping on urban textures. I found it very useful with Invasio Barbavorvm and their excessivley detailed but very taxing units ^-^. Workeed wonders with Call of Warhammer as well with the multi stack scripted forces of chaos

    its callled "reduced city textures", or something similar .

    I have the same problem as the threadstarter, and I noticed the reduced city texture file before, but I feel it would be a great shame to cut down on the textures, since hitherto the city textures posed no problem.

    In my opinion, the mod should stay within the same texture/poly limits as the vanilla game, but with an option for people with very strong machines to download a "luxury super detailed texture pack" if they wish.

    It's great that people who paid more for their computers can enjoy a more beautiful game, but I hope this can be done without forcing people who did not upgrade to turn the graphics quality down below what it was in vanilla.

    No, we should keep the textures as they are, and let you poor people with bad machines dowload a reduced detail texture pack.Better yet, increase the graphics quality because I want MOAR.

    Its better to wait a little and works on patch a little longer then release...

    Not for minor graphics/lag issues. If the CTD bugs and main graphics/units work is done it should be released so larger group of people can enjoy it sooner and find those really hidden bugs that simply take hours of gameplay to find.

    Yeah there will no sacrifice of quality in it, optimization is being done not reduction of quality.

    From what I've seen so far it will be save game compatible, and also eliminate silver surfer/ghost riders and certain CTD.

    Those changes will be savegame compatible because it's only dealing with unit textures. Those are only loaded up during battles so campaigns are untouched.

    I can still play without lag, but does the optimization make the unit-textures less demanding, meaning i can now play huge battles with reinforcements? How many more troops than i have now should i be able to have without lag?

    Yep, a lot of times it's more related to processor speed.
