Default Steam - Broken Crescent issues

I think possible I'm vaguely unclear on the install process. I followed the install instructions mostly, but I couldn't get BC to work at all ( I use windows 7 and a steam copy). I made it work partially by simply putting the BC folder into the mods folder, and renaming it to one of the other campaign. But although that allows me to start BC, this version crashes after the opening cinematic when I try to play the grand campaign.

I think the part of the install I have trouble with is between steps 3 and 4, when it tells you to paste the data file into the main medieval II folder. When I do that it asks me if i want to merge the folders and replace some files, to which I say yes. Then I can't get EITHER bc or vanilla MTWII to work properly (though since I have it backed up I can rectify this fairly quickly).

So to summarize, the best luck I've had so far involved me hijacking the name of a kingdoms campaign.

If someone could show me a few screenshots of how the folders are organized properly, from the main medieval folder down to the /broken_crescent folder, that would be insanely helpful.

I would also like ot note when I use the kingdoms launch editor tool to ad broken crescent, I get a message saying I don't have permission to edit the registry.

But have you read the part "If you have Windows Vista or Windows 7" here?

Yes, I have read it, and I did that "take ownership of file" AND disabled UAC. However I will entirely leave open teh possibility that I did them incorrectly.

I think you did. Otherwise you shouldn't have such an information popping up.

I redid all of the taking ownership and disabling UAC and I'm still getting the following message.

System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the registry key 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\SEGA\Medieval II Total War\Mods\Official\0004Broken_Crescent' is denied.

Hmm, I can't help you more, sorry. You need to wait for GGM to show up, or post your problem in general tech help thread for M2TW players.

Broken Crescent looks just fabulous. However, given the problems people seem to have with installation, maybe it would be an idea to have a package that includes standard M2TW with the changes made for Broken Crescent in such a way that installation is less troublesome. Then the developers could sell it as Broken Crescent, with some kind of licensing from CA, or CA can sell it with licensing from the developers. Either way, the developers and CA would make some money and it would be an option some of us would prefer.

As long as it would not interfere with the standard M2TW installation.
